How to navigate the wiki

Guide

This is going to be a guide to what is on the wiki, and how we typically put information on it.

Dashboard

  • Essentially the front page of the wiki, the Dashboard shows a small blurb about the server, a quick start guide for using the wiki, a random page on the wiki, and the recently modified entities (also known as wiki pages).

Quick Links

World

  • Characters
    • This is where all the characters, both Player and Non-player are listed.
    • For each entry, we Archivists (the best people on the server) strive to have at least the Name, Race, Location, Type, and Tags for a character, and if you are adding your character to the wiki, you should do the same. I've posted a sheet for us to look over as an example, because I'm just that amazing.
    • Example Sheet
    • Story Tab
      • Looking at the above sheet, some information immediately pops out. The sheet starts out on the 'Story' tab, where you can see an image of a handsome young man, a large set of text next to it that appears to be his name, and below the name, a set of tags and a location. Further below, you can see a box labeled 'Entry', with information on the fashionable god among men, as well as another box named 'Mentioned entity' that mentions how many other pages mention this lovable lad. On the far right, there are two boxes titled 'Pins' and 'Links'. The Pins box can list different types of information, such as who the character is related to, and different attributes that apply to the character. The links box .
    • Connections Tab
      • The Connections tab is where all the relationships the character has can be seen. As you can see for the Master of Diplomacy, Uzuto has relations with the characters Ariana Yaxiri, Zinlynndise Imare, Cornix the Beaker, and Gharok, with arrows pointing to each character. Some of the characters have arrows with each other, signifying their own relationships. If you were to hover over an arrow, you would see what exactly the relation is, and clicking on it allows you to edit it. When editing or creating a new relation, you must select the target of the relation and what the relation is, with the option of changing the color, adjusting the attitude from -100 - 100, with 100 being the most favorable, and adjusting the visibility between All, Self, and Self & Admin. You also have the option of pinning the relation so that it is visible on the Story tab of the character, as well as creating a mirror relation on the sheet of the target character. When viewing relations, you have the choice of viewing them as a table or as connecting series of lines.
    • Profile Tab
      • The Profile tab is where demographic info on the character can be found. For the example sheet, you can see that it has the title (a completely unearned one), what type of character he is, his race, his age, his gender and pronouns, and any other specific features.
    • Organization Tab
      • The Organizations tab is a list of every Organization the character is a part of. The character above belongs to the Explorers' Guild, but since every Player Character belongs to the Guild, entering this information is seen as pointless. If a Player Character or NPC is part of a Organization however, The Organizations Name, Type, Location, and the Role of the character in the Organization can be found here.
    • Attributes Tab
      • The Attributes tab is where any info about the player that isn't covered under the Profile tab can be placed. The Language Knowing Monk can be seen to have an attribute known as Languages, with the languages known listed to the right. At the upper right of the Attributes box there are two options, Apply an Attribute Template and Manage. Since we don't use Attribute Templates, we can ignore them in favor of looking at Manage. Selecting Manage will bring up a list of all attributes and the values applied to that attribute. You can delete specific attributes, delete all attributes, add new ones of different types, and choose attributes to be pinned.
    • Inventory Tab
      • The Inventory tab is where any items the character has can be placed. As the Items section that will be discussed down below is for the sake of homebrew items, this section probably won't be used much.
    • Assets Tab
      • The Assets tab are where anything that cannot be on the sheet, such as a file or an offsite link can be placed. Most Player Characters have their PF2.tools character sheets as links, but some might have images of minions/eidolons or even images of alternate costumes, like the Adonis above.
  • Locations
    • This section lists the myriad of locations that can be found, both in and out of the New World.
    • When making a new location, we Archivists (the best people on the server) do out best to ensure that at least the name (which is required), the Type, the Parent Location and the Entry for the location are all filled out. If you are ever filling out a location, you should do the same.
  • Maps
    • This is a small section, so I won't spend too much time on it, but essentially, it showcases all the maps to be explored in the New World. Maps are interactive, allowing players to scroll over and inspect them, as well as click on markers to  As of the time of me writing this, there are only two of them, but who knows when more could be found! Perhaps if there were a method to travel over long distances, it might be easier...
  • Organizations
    • This section lists all the groupings that can be interacted with while playing on Beyond the Portal.
    • As of now, organizations can be divided into two categories - Factions, when referring to groupings in the New World, and Guilds, when referring to organizations formed under the jurisdiction of the Explorers' Guild.
    • I went over these briefly when I introduced the Quick Links section, but now we can go into a bit more detail.
    • When making a new Organization, we Archivists (the best people on the server) like to ensure we have the Organization's Name, Type (Faction or Guild), Parent Organization if one exist, Location, Members, any applicable Tags, and a short description in the Entry box.
    • Factions
    • Guild
      • For Guilds, we will use Org Trait tags, to signify to the view whatever Org Traits the Guild has. For example, the Assembly of the Black Lotus has the Unknown tag, which gives special benefits. You might want to consider seeing what Guilds are available to see which one would fit your character, and then join it for the benefits (and RP if you're a nerd).
  • Timelines
    • Timelines are used for the purpose of keeping track of events that have happened in the worlds of Beyond the Portal. We don't use them now, due to our flexible time scale, but perhaps we'll find a use in the future!
  • Races
    • This section is where a variety of races, or ancestries as they are referred to in Pathfinder 2nd Edition, are stored.

Campaign

  • Quests
    • This is where the quests done on the server are stored. While older quest reports didn't have a defined structure, these days reports must list the quest name, the members of the quest and the GM, the locations where the quest took place, a brief summary of events, any loose threads for the quest, keywords that can be searched, as well as an optional link to a larger document. We put this information on the wiki, making sure to include tags for whichever GM ran the quest, as well as character links to the players to ensure that it shows on their sheets that they went.
  • Items
    • This is where unique items on the server are stored. It is typically used for homebrew, as vanilla items can be found on other sites.
  • Events

Notes

  • This is where miscellaneous information can be found, such as information on the server, the wiki, or in-character world history. While it doesn't get much use yet, there's always an opportunity for it to expand, so be careful when adding things and applying types.

Other

  • Tags
    • The lifeblood of the wiki, tags are used to categorize different entities. Because of the nature of a Westmarch, we by necessity have dozens upon dozens of tags, dedicated to Ancestries, Heritages, GMs, Organizations, and even Creature Types. Because of the importance of tags, it is always important to make sure that tags aren't made unnecessarily by asking yourself questions such as, "Does this tag already exist? Could this tag be covered under a different use case? Is this tag even necessary?"
  • Attribute Templates
    •  Useless. We don't use these. Maybe we will one day, but for now, you can safely ignore these.
