Kaylessa is friendly to any adventurer who seems likely to tarry in the vicinity, because she believes every monster that is slain makes Red Larch that much safer. If the characters don't approach her, Kaylessa tells them of recent disturbances near Red Larch. She's heard many tales about fogs that persist in the Sumber Hills even in bright sunlight, and sudden gusts of hot wind sweeping west out of the hills where breezes have always been cold. There have been more violent sights, too, such as sudden bolts of lightning stabbing up from the hills into a clear sky. "Fell magic," Kaylessa terms it, though she admits this was an opinion shared with her, and she's seen none of this herself.

Exploring the great menhir of granite stone, the party discovered a cave entrance beneath it. With signs warding them out, they proceeded regardless, and discovered an unhallowed place of foul undeath.

The party decide to go check out Lance Rock. Hoping to get back into town to catch the miners at the bathhouse, they return to Enterprise Rent-a-Cart to rent a cart for 1 gold, which they can get back if they return the cart in good condition. Diana goes and fetches Monty to go with them. They travel to Lance Rock. They find a trail with a sign telling everyone to stay away. The sign says it's from the Lord of Lance Rock but the party doesn’t believe that that’s a thing. They continue on along the trail until they reach a cave. Monty stays with the cart.

Inside the cave smells like death. Traveling along, they come to the entrance to a large chamber. Two zombies drop pebbles and stones on Logan and Gil. The party fights a group of zombies and skeletons, managing to dispatch them with only a little trouble. They continue on until they come to another chamber where they spot some dancing zombies. Diana blasts one before the party sneaks past the others. They travel along a narrow passage until they reach a room with two chests. While moving to investigate the chests, they hear a voice and a trap door opens above them dropping rocks on Diana and Idril. They discover a peep hole and Idril transforms into a spider to investigate the passage they can see on the other side.

As a spider, Idril investigates the passage and finds another chamber. She spots three tables with bodies, a stone ledge with surgical instruments and four skeletons. She also scouts out a way into the cavern. Idril returns to the group and they all venture back down the narrow passage. They skirt past the dance zombies and take the passage towards the chamber. Diana investigates the corpses, severing the legs on two of them. When she goes to check out the last it comes to life. Combat ensues with some severed limbs joining in. The party takes a short rest.

After resting, the party continues along the chamber where they meet, Oreioth a necromancer styling himself the Lord of Lance Rock. He explains that the caverns used to belong to a group of cultists, though he didn’t see any stone masks. He shows the group a glowing sphere which projects an image that looks like a pyramid and an eye. Diana takes the sphere after discovering that it will project the image when placed in the proper circumstances. After further conversation with Oreioth, the group gets him to fix the entrance to Lance Rock so that the local teenagers don’t try to enter the cave.
