Recent History
The High Elves have been scattered across most of Oerth, but many still tend to focus their lives around the Grand Duchy of Tír since the dissolution of their kingdom. Much of the traditional upper class still holds a great deal of resentment for the Troll invasion and destruction of their capital city of Caisleán. The lower classes have seen a rise in the general quality of life in Tír through the use of Troll and Dwarven technologies and engineering.

General Description
High Elves favour ivory skin, blonde hair and blue eyes. They describe themselves as one of the most intelligent races on Oerth and as a superior race. This latter trait, however, has diminished in newer generations and for those High Elves living in Bēti and locations like Mor’Koc is practically non-existent. Comments of Elven superiority are the subject of ridicule when Mor’Koc-based High Elves return to Tír,  the issue dividing generations and feeding into the stagnation of Tír in general.

Artisans and Scientists
The High Elves tend towards the finer aspects of society preferring to dwell within large cities or towns. They favour jobs as artisans, crafters and weavers of near magical fabrics which are known for their use in Wizards’ garments. Many of them also have a keen interest in the sciences, especially alchemy, dracology and thaumatology.

Masters of Defence
One area that the Kingdom of Tír, and the High Elves in general are venerated for is architecture, particularly siege defences. Nowhere is this better exemplified than the colossal Fortress of Balla, the current seat of power of the local Tíran government. With walls of solid granite 50’ high and 10’ thick, iron gates 6’ thick and the whole thing defended further by magic, Balla was designed to be impenetrable, and it proved to be true. The Imperial Army admitted that attacking it directly would be a waste of time and resources as even if they did get in they'd suffer massive casualties on the way, so they simply cut off the city's supply lines until the starving people surrendered, making the Fortress of Balla the only major centre of Tíran power that the Trolls never directly captured through force. High Elven siege engines are equally impressive, and the Imperial Army now has a multitude of High Elven architects and engineers acting as defensive coordinators and military engineers for this reason.

Relationship with the Past
Many High Elves remaining on Tíran shores, especially those of older generations, remember the time of the Elven monarchy very much through rose-tinted glasses, recalling grand parties, drug-filled orgies and alcohol-fuelled festivals which were known to last in excess of a week. The historic days of Virion I are looked back upon as the finest times in Tír’s history, which might well be true considering the Hero King's many accomplishments. However they tend to view the reign of Queen Luciel, in a similar light, and any historian outside of Tír would definitely not agree with that particular view as her reign was largely dominated by her mental illness and hawkish paranoia. While these factors were not entirely her fault, any claims that she was a good queen should very much be taken with a healthy amount of salt.

High Elves Outside of Tír
Non-Tíran High Elves have dropped many of the negative characteristics of their Tíran forebears, but unfortunately many still get lumped with the stigma of being a High Elf, especially those living in the Empire. Those living in Imperial and Bētin locations have picked up many traits from the culture they are living in, but still maintain a distinctly Elven lifestyle with appreciation for the arts and sciences and a veneration for the beauty of the natural world still being a primary driving force of their culture.

Aloof
Tíran High Elves have a tendency towards being arrogant, vain, mildly xenophobic and isolationist. High Elves who were born and live elsewhere tend to not have most of these traits but can still lean towards aloofness, vanity and arrogance. Many consider the Violin to be the ultimate musical instrument and look down on foreign bards who do not have the required skill.
