Ecology

Description

The Fae is a plane that exists in parallel to Ylvestra, a mirror plane which reflects and distorts everything that passes through it. It is a place where the natural world and emotions are pushed to their extremes, resulting in a surreal and awe-inspiring landscape.

One of the most striking features of the Fae is its plant life. In this plane, plants are not limited by the constraints of the physical world, and can grow to be incredibly large or minuscule and almost invisible to the naked eye. Some of the most magnificent forests in the Fae have trees that tower hundreds of meters high and flowers of every form, shape, and color imaginable. For anyone not native to the Fae, the senses are put through an incredible kaleidoscopic experience, where everything is familiar yet distorted and dazzling. However, it is not just the plant life that is exaggerated, as emotions are also amplified. Melancholy will present itself in deep sadness, and the slightest anger can blow up into profuse hatred. Joy and elation are also more intense, making the Fae a place where one can experience the full range of emotions in their most potent exaggerated form.

Geographically, the Fae is similar to Ylvestra, with mountains, valleys, rivers, and lakes located in the same general locations. However, these features are exaggerated, with mountains that stretch into the clouds or possibly flying among them, valleys that plunge into impenetrable darkness, and rivers flowing up towards the mountains forming clouds at the apex. The Fae is also home to a myriad of fantastical creatures that are found nowhere else in the multiverse, from mischievous sprites to towering treants.

Despite its similarities to Ylvestra, man-made structures on Ylvestra are not mirrored onto the Fae and vide-versa, as they are not the pure manifestation of nature but instead a result of intelligent interference. The Fae is a place of pure natural wonder, where the boundaries between reality and imagination are blurred, and the impossible becomes possible.

Inhabitants

A myriad of creatures, humanoid or otherwise, hail from the Fae. Most well known are the elves, among them are also goblins, fauns, and sprites. Among the more animalistic and/or monstrous creatures there are pseudodragons, displacer beasts, and owlbears.
