Stretching to the northwest of the The Inner Archipelago lie a lightly populated and sparse chain of islands, the Northern Reaches. Towns are few and far between, the civilized races via for dominance with all manner of magical creatures and monsters, and life is more precarious than in the well settled inner islands. Especially, various giant races abound, in addition to a sizable population of halflings.

Magic is general is stronger and more common than in the Inner Archipelago, though often magic of strange properties. As the old saying goes "All the rules change in the Reaches"

Inspiration

In addition to the same 17th century Caribbean inspiration of the overall The Thousand Isles, the Northern Archipelago also draws inspiration from Ursula Le Guin’s “Wizard of Earthsea” for its heavier fantasy component.
