Grippli

Humanoid

About

Grippli (both the plural and singular form of the word) are similar to tree frogs, but more humanoid in form and averaging about 2½ feet tall. Their hands and feet are human-like, but longer in shape. Grippli eyes are yellow, red, or orange with vertical slit pupils. Their skin is often gray, green, brown, blue, or a mixture of those colors in stripes and swirling patterns.

Grippli young are hatched from eggs, usually eight or so eggs being laid at one time, but only half or less of them will ever hatch.

Most grippli live simple lives on their islands, most concentrated in the marshes or the coasts. They rarely leave the comfort of their islands, with only the occasional trader or adventurer travelling across the sea.

Grippli eat fruit and insects, trapping small insects in large quantities and hunting giant insects like humans hunt boar or deer.

Grippli cherish metal heirlooms, which they must get from other races. It is common for them to make poisons, potions, herbal tinctures, and alchemical goods that they use for trading with merchants that come to their islands. It is easy to assume that grippli may be simple-minded, but they are anything but as evidenced by their cleverly laid traps and exquisitely crafted tools, even if they are made of vine, wood, and stone.

Grippli live in a matriarchal society, with each village being led by the Mother Grippli. She towers over other grippli at four feet tall. Helping to lead the village are the chief hunter and a spiritual leader (a shaman or priest). They are usually, but not always, also female.
