Mwangi Summer Festival

Party
Jul 30th - Sep 1st (2021)

With a sudden flourish, the canvases surrounding the arena are pulled away, revealing its temporary redecoration. Around the perimeter of the sands, tropical palms sway gently in the breeze; a breeze which also carries the sweet smell of spiced meat through First Landing. The entire area is drenched in unseasonable summer heat, apparently the effect of some ritual placed upon the arena. In the center of the arena is constructed a wooden platform containing a lengthy pool of crystal-clear water and decorated at either end with red and blue banners. Beside the pool is a long palm-wood bar upon which rests several glasses of colourful and fruity-smelling cocktails for the tasting. Near the exit stands an open shack advertising various exotic wares. It would appear that a Mwangi summer festival has arrived, replete with attractions and activities for you to take part in.

The event grounds are overseen by Sisskasha (NG female shisk dancer), who greets newcomers and entertains guests with song and dance. Various hirelings - mostly Song'o halflings, Mualijae elves and Zenj humans - perform various tasks such as waiting on tables and tidying the grounds.

Lubaiko's Barrelhouse is a well-stocked bar replete with brandy, rum and a broad selection of speciality cocktails. The operation is run by Brings-the-Party Revamu (CG female anadi mixologist), a vivacious devotee of the Mwangi goddess of fire Lubaiko. Ask for the house special - if you dare!

Just alongside the bar is a sizzling barbeque grill attended by Tender Antelope (CN male gnoll chef), a man who is extremely enthusiastic about grillin'. Most of the food offered here is spiced meat of varieties both foreign and familiar, though vegetarian alternatives are available on request.

The main attraction in the center of the arena is the pool, a partially-elevated construction containing cool, clear water. At either end of the pool are goal nets decorated in red or blue respectively. Sitting on a tall chair at the center line is Xylem (LN nonbinary conrasu referee), an aeon whose sole purpose on this plane is overseeing sporting matches. Pacing around the perimeter is Quagpki (N genderfluid grippli lifeguard), a retired professional Mwangi water polo player with blue-green splotches decorating their smooth skin. In this location, PCs may sign up for and play Mwangi water polo, a fast and energetic sport in which teams of 3 compete to score goals.

Of course, no event would be complete without a gift shop. This stall is operated by Zouziko (LN male goloma merchant), a shy but friendly creature of rather alien appearance, possessing many eyes and an equine head. Various trinkets, souvernirs and practical goods may be purchased here at fair prices, many of which are rarely seen in First Landing!
