The Academy was formed centuries ago and is the center of learning in Thylea. The great wizard Damon Caduceus was one of its founders, but it wasn’t only an institution for magical learning. It was also a place for philosophy and other intellectual pursuits. Now it consists of many colleges devoted to the different schools of magic (divination, evocation, etc.) and to safeguarding the lore of Thylea. It is also a place where Thylea’s interests in theater, song, and other arts are encouraged.

This massive gate can be accessed from the paved road that snakes up the hillside and provides access to the Royal district and it's surroundings. The road is wide enough to accommodate traffic moving in both directions. The towers that flank the gate are carved to represent the writhing forms of of dragons.

Sybolkorax was a fearsome red Dragon, oathsworn of Rizon Phobas.

Ages past, before the unprecedented union between mortals and Dragons and their arrival to Thylea, Sybolkorax was a King. The details of how have been lost in time but he had come to rule over the vast tracts of land that made up the Kingdom of Fidia. An intimidating ruler who did not hesitate to deal with potential threats himself, it could not be denied that the citizens of Fidia enjoyed a better quality of life than in many of the neighboring lands. This combined with the King being an unkillable force of nature made the kingdom remarkably stable. All this changed however as T̸̤͔̲͚̋̐̒̌h̷̪͗̃͒e̵͖̳̦̣̩̫̜̤̽̋́͘͜͜ ̵̮͛̈Ģ̸̙̱̪̉̄̕ŗ̵̢̪͉̙̫̞̟̜͚̈́̅̄̀̈́e̴̤̜̺͓̬͈͌͗̃̇̓̀a̴̞͕̫͉̥̺͇̰͑̅̋̒̋͐̀͠t̸̨͔̱̼͎̉͜ ̶͇̖̟̚D̸̡̳̝̲̜͙͗̎̋̊̂̊͊͘ȉ̶̝͈͊s̷̖̃̐ả̷͚̀s̸̳̼̮͖̻̠̍ţ̸͇͖̪̟̖̹̑͐̒̎͘e̶̮̥̣͍̥̪̠͔̭̟̔̊͌̚̕͘r̴̫̠͔͇̳̈ occurred, forcing Fidia to desperately evacuate to the south eventually encountering The Order of the Dragonlords

Sybolkorax tried and failed to get his own way with intimidation faced by a collective the world had never seen before, numbering hundreds of other Dragons within their ranks. He eventually gave in and joined them as a way to earn safe passage for his people and himself. Working under others' authority did not come naturally to Sybolkorax, with many "accidents" ending in flame and destruction as his temper got the better of him.

This went on until he was confronted by Balmytria, the Silver dragon that had become something akin to a representative for Dragon kind in the ranks. What words were exchanged is not known but from then one the Ancient Red Dragon behaved and quickly rose to be one of the most instrumental members of the order, key to delaying the D̸̡̳̝̲̜͙͗̎̋̊̂̊͊͘ȉ̶̝͈͊s̷̖̃̐ả̷͚̀s̸̳̼̮͖̻̠̍ţ̸͇͖̪̟̖̹̑͐̒̎͘e̶̮̥̣͍̥̪̠͔̭̟̔̊͌̚̕͘r̴̫̠͔͇̳̈ so the order could launch their crusade to Thylea. They fought side by side for three long years and during this time they grew closer to each other defying the usual hate between red and silver dragons.

While in Thylea his relationship with Balmytria blossomed and they spawned several offspring, their names being Halkorania, Raspytrion, Tysophale and Arystonar. This wasn't the first time Sybolkorax had fathered young but it was the first time he raised them. He knew that this was unusual for a Red Dragon but his time in these new lands had calmed much of his fabled temper. For the first time in his long life he was greeted with joy than fear and this made him happy.

The war however was long and brutal. Most of the order was destroyed and eventually even Balmytria fell. Having lost everyone he cared for bar Rizon Sybolkorax's famous rage reappeared. With a great roar, the ancient Dragon rose up and flew towards Praxys with the intent of razing to the ground. He was never seen again.

Clothing in Thylea is heavily inspired by a mixture of garments worn throughout wide periods of time during Ancient Greece and Rome.

While styles vary from the islands to the cities of Mytros and Aresia, overall Thyleans tend to wear two pieces of clothing draped about the body: an undergarment (a chiton or peplos) and a cloak (himation or chlamys).

Clothing is made from natural fibres (with linen being the most common and wool being worn for the cold), worn loose-fitting and free flowing, customarily secured with minimal cutting and sewing, instead making use of ornamental clasps, pins, belts, or girdles. Pieces are largely interchangeable between men and women, but are worn at different heights (ie. men tend to wear clothing that tapers at their knees, while women often wear their robes to their ankles).

  • Chiton - The chiton was a simple tunic garment of lighter linen and usually pleated that was worn by all ages and genders.  It consisted of a wide, rectangular tube of material secured along the shoulders and lower arms by a series of fasteners. Chitons typically fall to the ankles of the wearer, but shorter chitons were sometimes worn during vigorous activities by ahletes or warriors.
  • Pelos - A body length, dress-like garment worn by women.

  • Himation (Achiton) - A mantle or wrap worn by men and women, typically over a chiton or pelos, similar to a cloak or shawl.
  • Chalamys - A seamless rectangle of woolen material worn for military or hunting purposes. It is meant to be worn as a cloak and is fastened at the right shoulder with a brooch or button. The chlamys is typical military attire.
  • Toga - Many variations of toga exist. Men and boys typically wear togas that are short-sleeved or sleeveless, and women and girls tend to wear longer sleeved tunic versions. On formal occasions, adults may wear a woolen toga draped over a tunic.
  • Tunics - Tunics worn in Thylea are similar to chitons and are considered variations of the garment. A person’s tunic is typically decorated at the hem-line, often with a representation of the city where the wearer lives. Tunics are popular in all manner of dyed colours.
  • Undergarments - Women often wore a strophion, similar to a bra, under their garments and around the mid-portion of their body. The strophion was a wide band of wool or linen wrapped across the breasts and tied between the shoulder blades. Women could also wear a shawl called an epiblema.  Men and women sometimes wore triangular loincloths, called perizoma.
  • Footwear - While going barefoot is not unheard of, sandals, shoes, and boots are typical for most Thyleans. Footwear is typically made of leather, and occasionally of felt, smooth cloth, or wood.
  • Ornaments and Accessories - Wreaths, tainia, headbands, and various other means of headwear are common amongst Thyleans, both as fashion statements, and for keeping ones hair up in the hot weather.  Brooches, clasps, and other pins are very common, meant both to affix chitons and other garments, but also as a means of accessorizing. Accessories provide a means of displaying taste and in some cases, wealth.

Volkan is an extremely muscular and wide man who works as a blacksmith. He claims knowledge of the Mithral Forge but then again he also claims to be the God Volkan.

He can come across as unbalanced, forgetful, and myopic. He provides blacksmithing services to Estoria and all the farming communities in The Heartlands. He can usually be found at his anvil, grumbling about all the work to be done. Volkan is assisted by a gangly teenaged boy named Theo, who minds the stables and runs errands in town. Theo has claimed he is aiming to become the best mortal smith in the whole world.

He apparently gets extremely drunk once a month and becomes extremely irritable.

"Chalcia, the Godess of Swiftness, was the only god to escape when her siblings, Sydon and Lutheria, decided to destroy their brothers and sisters. She escaped to an island of fire, pursued by Sydon's storm of wrath.  She hid deep in the island and waited for the storm to abate.  You can see her cowering in those seven bright stars.

But Sydon and Lutheria did not leave.  Instead the Twins reached deep into the roots of the island, shifting rock and stone to trap their sister in a tiny chamber at the island's fiery heart.  Look!  You can see the red star beneath Chalcia.  It represents the everlasting torment she suffers, trapped at the island's centre."

For millennia before the coming of the Dragonlords, outsiders would occasionally wash up on the shores of Thylea. These were usually shipwrecked explorers or merchants who were blown far off course. Of all races and nationalities, these people had to live in harmony with the natives of Thylea.

They formed tribes and lived on the islands of the Cerulean Gulf. When the Dragonlords came, these tribes fought with the natives of Thylea against the newcomers. In present times thebarbarians are still looked upon with fear and distrust by the civilized races. They are seen as being as dangerous as the centaur tribes or fey creatures of the Oldwood. The most feared of the barbarian tribes are the Amazons that dwell upon the island of the Island Of Themis.
