In the morning you pass 2 great megaliths on either side of the river.

In the afternoon you arrive at Twin Falls which is the confluence of the River Stir and the River Narn. You meet two local women, Astrid and Birgit who, after exchanging pleasantries, invite you to their village of Unterbaum where you can meet their druid Corrobreth who knows about the Barren Hills. They advised you took your boat up the locks and moor it outside the Roaring Falls Inn which is located on the bank of the Stir above the locks

Once you negotiated (and paid for use of) the locks, you moored (and paid to moor) outside the Roaring Falls Inn.

You saw Astrid and Birgit on the other side of the Narn and went to join them. You had to wade across the river near the edge of the falls and roped yourselves together for safety. Unfortunately Mahgnim Rib and Thrumir Bhakdram slipped because of the force of the water and slipping from the rope, Thrumir was nearly carried over the falls, had it not been for the luck of Ravenclaw Darkwood recovering her footing. Another Miraculous survival!

Astrid and Birgit took you to Unterbaum, an idyllic village in a large clearing in the forest, and introduced you to Vorster, the village elder and Corrobreth.

They invited you to join them for dinner at Vorster's house. Over dinner you discussed where you were going and Corrobreth told you the tale of the Devil's Bowl:

“Many generations ago the beings of Chaos poured out of their vile wastelands to despoil the land and gather souls for their despicable gods. It was a dark time indeed, for even the vault above conspired with them. For days the the sky screamed and the Chaos moon howled and spat its evil upon us.

To protect us, the Druids of old built a stone circle around the places where its foul expectorations landed. But it was barely enough, the land up there was blighted for generations, and around Devil’s Bowl, where the largest piece landed, strange unnatural growths began to appear. Now I fear there are evil things lurking in the hills, waiting till the time comes for them to rise up and sweep all before them.”

Vorster also told you that some others had headed into the hills 3 days ago, led by a blonde-haired woman. They had lost one of their horses over the Twin Falls.

Corrobreth volunteered to lead you to the Devil's Bowl as it would also give him opportunity to gather some herbs. He told you the best way would be to travel up the Narn by canoe for 4 days and then a 10-mile hike to the Devil's bowl.

You accepted his offer and gathered your gear ready to set off the next day
