A crowd has gathered in the Wizard’s Grace to head off to the Town Hall for the event. People are excited to see Krystoff as an adventurer who shows up to the call. A tiny muffled voice just as everyone stops talking says “What am I? Chopped liver?”, it’s the tiny female human from Cayden’s Keg. She seems a bit out of place with her gigantic backpack. Krystoff gives her a large smile and a thumbs up. She doesn’t really react.
Everyone heads over to the Town Hall. There’s an odd
looking Goblin at the entrance in pristine Priest-like clothing. A necklace
hanging with the symbol of Desna, the ancient Goddess of freedom and luck. She
is mumbling to herself and looks somewhat nervous.
There’s about 40 people making their way into the Town
Hall and taking seats on pews. There’s a bit of a stage in the front with a
long table and some empty chairs.
Krystoff sits at the front. Jae is there too but sits more
to the middle-back.
The small Human girl also sits near the back.
Five people enter the room from a side door and take
seats by the long table on the stage. A human woman leads the
group and introduces herself to the Crowd. Her name is Greta Gardania and she’s
the Council President.
She greets the crowd and calls up for petitions from the townsfolk.
The first person up is Angus, the Dwarven
Boar farmer from the night before, Greta gives a sigh when she calls him up. He goes on about his
missing boar, and everyone in the crowd seems to know the story and are rather
annoyed at the petition.
The Dwarf mentions that His boar Milie has escaped
before, but always seems to return, except this time she did not. He offers a
very generous reward of 10 gold pieces for the return of his precious boar.
Krystoff raises his hand which causes some annoyance from the crowd and the
council since it seems to be against usual protocol. “What’s exactly so special
about this boar? Can’t you just use a different one for the feast?” This seems
to anger Angus, who goes on a crazy rant about the difference between one boar
and another, and how his boars are art, blah blah blah until he’s eventually
escorted off the stage. People are annoyed at Krystoff
for making him go on this rant.
Greta calls up the next petitioner, Warbal Bumblebrasher to the Bumblebrasher Tribe of Hellknight Hill. She happens to be the Goblin Priestess
everyone saw by the entrance.
Warbal takes the stage and explains that she hasn’t been able to contact her
people at Hellknight Hill, and she has also seen distress signals in the
distance.
Her petition is interrupted as everyone hears a loud BANG. Everyone goes quiet
and then again BANG!
Krystoff looks around the room and notices Jae has stood up. He follows suit
and grabs his shield, putting his hand on his sword hilt.
The side door burst open, a young scribe with ink black hands comes through and
leans on the Councilor’s table, black smoke following in behind him.
The man shouts in between shortness of breath “Fire!
There’s a fire!”
Panic breaks loose, the crowd is rushing to the door, trampling each other and
trapping people under overturned pews.
Krystoff’s first thought is to rush to the door and close it to slow down the
flames from coming into the room. However, upon closer inspection, he notices
the greater threat comes from people pushing each other. There’s immediate
danger that someone will be trampled to death. Instead he stays put, lifting
people who have fallen and trying to convince everyone out in and orderly
fashion.
Tongues of flames start coming into the room, the Councilors are trying to
organize the evacuation but are not achieving much success.
The flames start pouring into the room, burning walls and ceiling and then, a
loud snicker is heard, and a flame-like creature flies into the room, laughing
and burning things as it goes.
Jae moves around the side of the room trying to avoid the panicking crowd and
getting closer to the creature.
The human girl pulls a potion from her absurdly large backpack and drinks it. Her legs
become way more agile, allowing her to make her way around the room with more
ease.
Kyrstoff runs up to the creature while shouting at the councilors to help out
with the evacuation, drawing a light Hammer from his belt and throwing
it right at the snickering creature’s face. This
angers the creature, who flies towards Krystoff and lets out a large breath of
fire. The Champion manages to mostly jump out of the way, avoiding the bigger
part of the damage, but his clothes catches fire. Jae continues to make his way
to the front of the Hall, where the stage and the table are.
The girl runs to the west side of the room and draws a sling, loosing a bullet
and smacking the creature square in the face.
The fire continues to make it’s way into the room.
Two guards that were in the hallway come into the room to check what’s with all
the commotion.
Krystoff, still on Fire, shouts at the councilmembers to get these people out
(rolls poorly) they stare at this man that’s ON FIRE and say “I think you have
more pressing things to be worrying about!”
Krystoff starts smacking the fire out and moves back to avoid the flames that
are quickly making their way into the room.
The creature follows, striking with it’s jaws but not being able to do any damage through Krystoff’s armor.
Jae makes his way up to the stage, and takes cover behind the desk, then throws a dagger that hits the Bat winged creature right in the shoulder.
Krystoff orders the guards to help get the people out safely and
to tell them to get water from the fountains that are outside.
He raises his shield and draws his Longsword.
The creature maneuvers through the air, and attacks Krystoff with flaming jaws.
An amazing maneuver that Krystoff barely managed to block with his Shield, but
the heat from the attack managed to get through, singeing
his hair.
Jae notices the wound where his dagger hit is slowly healing and quickly throws
another dagger, hitting the creature right in the head, killing it instantly.
Everyone helps get everyone out safely and start a line, passing pails of water
to each other from the fountains outside. Jae and
Krystoff are at the end of it, dowsing the flames until they have all been put
out.
The town hall was saved, but four people did not make it out as they were
trampled to death by the panicked citizens.
*Krystoff and Jae recover their thrown weapons*
Greta addresses the crowd gathered outside the Hall, bringing up that this fire
was likely not an accident.
Calmont Trenault, a young Halfling apprentice at the bookstore has
been acting suspiciously and was seen around the area. He seems to have made
his way to Hellknight Hill. After asking around the consensus seems to be he’s
a good for nothing Thug.
The Goblins of Hellknight Hill should be checked on urgently.
Krystoff, Jae and the Girl agree to head to Accept the quest. Krystoff puts a
hand on Warbal’s shoulder to assure her they will do their
best to contact her tribe.
Brynne Taithe, Jae’s boss and priestess of Cayden Cailean, says she’s very impressed at the things Jae can do, and he shouldn’t worry about Cayden’s Keg while he’s away, since they’ve managed themselves before.
The three Adventurers decide to head out first
thing in the morning. To prepare for the journey, they rent a Mule and a cart.
Krystoff buys a Pup tent and they get directions to Hellknight Hill and Citadel Altarein, which is about 10 miles northeast of town.
