The Kingdom of Coralan is an underwater nation beneath the Sea of Coralan to the west of Eressea. The population of Coralan is made up primarily of tritons and merfolk.

Coralan is a martial society, believing itself responsible for protecting the ocean from monsters and evildoers. Coralan maintains good, if distant, relationships with the land-based nations, including some degree of trade and diplomacy.

Military

Coralan has a standing force, The Cerulean Army, which is commanded by the monarch, with most day-to-day command given to a general. There are eleven great houses of Coralan, and they each make up the structure of a unit.

At a young age, Coralan citizens begin their membership in an agelai (school) composed of about 10 members each. Each citizen is required to be a member of these schools. Here each group learns how to bond and rely on one another. Members of these agelai often go on to serve in the same military units.

Each citizen is obliged by law to undergo military training and to at least serve in the reserves unless they are physically incapable.

Culture

Coralan culture revolves around the military. The laws and customs of Coralan are designed to maximize military proficiency at all costs, focusing social institutions on military training, physical development, and the application of magic to combat.

Games are held every month in the coliseum, the various competitions and events taking up several days. Events include duels, jousts, wrestling, shark riding, and other feats of strength. Each event has some basis in military principle. Coralites would tell you that these games are not about the enjoyment or the spectacle, they are about preparing one's self for combat.
