What is this?
Kanka.io is a campaign management website that operates much like your average every-day wiki. Without getting into the weeds of it, it's designed with table-top RPGs in mind. Every single character, page, tag, location, etc can be dynamically shown or hidden to specific users so that everyone sees only what their character would know about. So let's say a couple people started their adventuring in a city that a different PC has never been to. This PC won't have access to any specifics about the city—not even the name and location—unless they've heard about it from someone else. Of course they can also gain access to this info by simply traveling there!

Changing preferences
Kanka has a couple of preferences you can change to "personalize" your experience. If you click your name on the top right and go to Profile you can find them. I would highly recommend going to the Layout section and clicking the box that says Nested Views as Default. This will reorganize directories (Characters, Races, Locations, etc) by their sub-directories. Of course, it's up to you!

Tabs to the left
As a quick overview, here are what the tabs to the left are for (ignoring the super obvious ones). There may be a couple tabs you never use, too.

  • Dashboard: The homepage of the campaign. Basically the same thing as the next tab Campaign, but it has a couple modules built into it that aren't present on the Campaign tab. You may even be reading this from the Dashboard tab right now!
  • Campaign: More of an administrative page that you won't use, but it does have the introduction to the world of Daelara and a couple other things for you.
  • I don't use the custom links tab. lol
  • Families: Lists the different families or clans that people are a part of. If your character has a family feel free to create the family here (and on the Characters tab)!
  • Items: This tab is self-explanatory, but I wanted to mention: Feel free to add items your character has gotten over our many play sessions. When creating an item, it may be useful to write the technical or gameplay information under their "Attributes" tab. You'll easily notice it on just about any page.
  • Calendars: Once again kind of obvious, but this is basically the same as the Events tab above it. They will both display the same events, with the obvious difference of whether or not a literal calendar is shown.
  • Journals: Here I am posting all my previous and future game session notes. Don't worry! I've already screened them to make sure they contain no spoilers or other private details about the campaign, haha.
