It seems that the ruined castle belongs to the local baron's family and is actually called Redwood Castle. We tried to offer to reclaim it in exchange for remuneration, but he wouldn't even grant us an audience.

Once I again I acted as the party's bankman, paying the collateral and rent for the barge we needed to get across the river. It was a good investment, but alas, if I pay for everything then I should take larger share of treasure.

Calamatix was babbling all the way—whole 18 hours—about his poetry. But he shared no poems. I will not miss him.

The Redwood castle seems quite decayed. There are holes in the walls, broken doors, scorched earth, rotten wood, overgrowth… We voyaged a bit further downstream, so we can access the castle from its main entrance—or what used to be the main entrance.

We decided to enter into the watchtower through a crevice in the castle wall. Young Tom and Chatty Calamatix were leading the exploration. We were soon attacked by a host of skeletal critters, nearly a dozen of 'em!

We rapidly dispatched them and proceed to investigate the tower's higher levels. As Tom was one level up, he gently prodded the wood flooring, which resulted in few coins falling on us.

Greedy Calamatix immediately started shouting at him, instructing him to hit the flooring harder. Poor Tom obliged, and the floor gave in under his immense weight. I could not believe my eyes.

There they lay, two mangled corpses under a pile of rubble, covered in gold coins. My grievance was soothed after counting 250 gold coins.

Tarek Krel and I dragged their corpses to our barge, else we might have encountered their skeletons upon our return. We returned to Redwood in solemn silence.

A bitter-sweet expedition, but it seems that this Tarek guy is a good sport. We shared some ales to wash the sorrow away.

Redwood castle notes:

  • We've seen a fire when approaching it. It looked like it was in the main courtyard.
  • We've seen a figure (or figures) moving in the main castle. They seemed to be humanoid.
  • One side of the castle is charred and has barren ground in front of it. Nothing seems to grow there.
