The ultimat sacrefice

Session 82
2022-12-08

Adrian takes his hammer and runs up to the third and last spider, killing it, and then he quickly cuts Arcus free from the web. Still, under the influence of the confusion, Irdien fires an arrow at Morbrant, but Adrian quickly hits it out of its path with his sword. But, unfortunately, the infection is not fading from her eyes. So, first, L battles the frozen scull and crushes it into dust. Then, as the room she's in has been cleared out of enemies, she runs across to the other. Finally, Morbrant breaks free from the webs and calls out to summon his trusted horse Mara, who appears from an old basin for holy water. The last remaining frozen skull tries attacking L before retreating into a corner. Zack peaks inside and sees it. He sends a magic missile into its bony face making it explode into tiny pieces.
Sirona, after observing Irdien, summons healing infused with her holy symbol. The influence that's been clawing into the drow finally let's go, and her mind comes back. Sirona then turns towards the grated door ahead with the next horde of Zombies and sends an ice javelin through the bars. Adrian is quickly b her side, sending an arrow the same way. It ricochets in the narrow corridor, killing two zombies before embedding itself in the forehead of a third.
There are two more doors on either side of the centre door, and Arcus runs to growl and snap at some more zombies, now trying to get out of the rooms. Irdien finishes the zombie that took Adrian's arrow to its head while Morbrant and L run up to aid. At this point, one of the zombies manages to open the right door spilling out into the hall. Zach immediately colour sprays them, which seems to have weakened them.
A zombie behind the still-closed centre door tries swiping at L through the bars. Sirona tries to Javelin it, but they seem resistant to her ice. So she moved down to the left side of the corridor to check out the last door. She says there are many more Zombies down there, and Arian quickly joins her and Arcus, firing more arrows into the small enclosed space. The Zombie before L manages to attack her with an icy claw that seems to freeze her bone. Irdien tries to help her by firing an arrow but accidentally hits L instead. Luckily, her armour takes the brunt of it. She managed to cut the zombie down before giving Irdien a questioning glance.
Unfortunately, there's little time for conversation as the Zombies pouring out of the right room are moving up to attack Morbrant. The Uncle responds by vowing to put them all back into their graves. Then, swinging his hammer around while mounted on Mara, he turns several sculls into fine powder. One of the zombies that managed to evade his hammer claws at Morbrant, leaving a deep wound. While it is distracted, Zach comes up next to it and sends a shocking grasp through its ragged body. He then grabs his staff and gives it a good swing, taking off the zombie's head.
Sirona repeats Adrian's earlier stunt by impaling three zombies with her Javelin. Unfortunately, Adrian's arrow finds no target while Irdien moves up to help L finish off the last zombie before L forces the door open to look inside. It's empty of enemies, but there are two large sarcophagi and several bones.
Morbrant rides into the right room to make sure it's clear. Inside are more bones and a prominent symbol of Moren with writing on it.
On the other end of the corridor, Sirona takes more inspiration from her friends and forgoes another ice javelin to inside lob the head of the last zombie with her war pick. She then breaks the lock with her hammer to see what's inside. There's an altar with a neatly pilled-up stack of cleaned and prepared humanoid bones.
L finds a scroll and circlet inside the coffins that radiates magic energy. Morbrant calls out for Siroan to come and see the writing on the statue. The group gathers inside his room, and Morbrant reads the text. It's the last words of the monks that lived here during the second age. They decided to seal themselves in and devote the remainder of their lives to cast wards to protect the temple against these abominations that had started plaguing the island. They knew they would eventually starve to death, but at least they would save the holy texts.
