The Nightspell Marches are expansive swamplands in the southeast of the Nightspell Moors, extending into the west of the Deadmarch as well. It is likely the name was originally the Nightspell Marshes, but changed over time to Marches as local people began to see the swamps as a thin barrier between the world of the dead.
The Marches are a reliable source of peat, which is often gathered by those that choose to risk living there. In addition to being inhabited by all manner of violent beasts and unsavory characters, it is also the home of Zahast the Vilespawn, a powerful black dragon that rages against the settlements of the swamps, more specifically the massive fort Arterax and the members of the Warriors Guild.
