General Description
The Elves are a race that has gone through many changes over the past few centuries. Thin humanoids with knife-like ears and beautiful faces, there are many different types of Elves and even these often have variations depending on where they are.

Natural Magic Users
Like their cousins the Fae, all Elves are gifted with the ability to use magic from birth, though unlike the Fae where use of it comes naturally without any real effort, for the Elves it takes a bit of practice to get right and as a result not everyone has theirs developed to a usable point. As a result of this natural affinity, Elven Wizards and Sorcerers are often incredibly skilled and powerful. However, a large amount of Elven commoners will still know at least one or two spells, usually low level spells that are of practical use to them individually - for example, a baker might know Mage Hand to help him work more efficiently.

Language
The Elves speak Elvish, an offshoot of Sylvan. Elvish generally has a more flowing, musical tone than Sylvan and a lot of the accenting is much softer, leading to the language lending itself well to poetry. The language has a multitude of different dialects dependent on the culture the Elf originates from, which are referred to as Tíran Elven, Imperial Elven, Bētin Elven, Deep Elven and Poolish Elven.

Master Archers
One of the Elf race's claims to fame is the fact that the Elves invented archery. This fact has made archery a major part of the Elves’ cultural heritage. All Elves learn how use a bow from a young age, and upon reaching adulthood (their 90th birthday) they will make their own bow from scratch with no outside help, which they will carry for the rest of their life (only replacing it if it is incinerated or similarly irreparably destroyed); this tradition is one of the few things that is universal throughout the various Elven subgroups. Most of Oerth's best sport archers are Elven and in combat the skill of an Elven archer is utterly devastating. The Elves eschew the use of modern crossbows, preferring to use their traditional Elven longbows and shortbows, which usually are far more powerful than their mechanical counterparts due to many of them having magical enhancement. Elven bows are highly sought after for this as well as their exceptional craftsmanship, not only as weapons but for older ones as collectors items. A shortbow once used by Queen Luciel when she was a child went at auction in Mor’Koc for over 8 Platinum (the owner donated it to the state after a while, who then placed it in the Kingdom Museum in Balla.)

Frail
Elves are physically weaker and less durable than many other races, and far less able to take a hit, hence why plate armour is so favoured amongst High Elf soldiers. This is also why the traditional fighting style of the Elves relies much on mobility and dodging.

Languages: Common, Elven (Imperial/Betin/Tíran/Deep/Poolish/Na'Ka'Vean dialects), Sylvan

Darkvision: You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern colour in darkness, only shades of gray.

Keen Senses: You have Proficiency in Perception.

Fae Ancestry: You get a Saving Throw against being Charmed and are immune to being rendered Asleep by magical means.

Trance: Elves don’t need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is “trance.”) While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that other races do from 8 hours of sleep.

Elf Weapon Training: You have proficiency with the Longsword, Shortsword, Longbow and Shortbow, and by default begin with one of the latter two in your inventory.

SUB-RACES: High Elf, Wood Elf, Dark Elf, Blood Elf, Snow Elf. Choose one.
