Sigurd Örvarson of Clan Copperhelm was born in the Dwarven Mountains village of Holmgaard to Örvar Oddson, the chief of Clan Copperhelm, and Signi, a Rockfolk and one of the Clan's priestesses of the Church of Jak'ra, as the youngest of their four sons. His great-grandfather Odin Ragnarson was the captain of one of the Dwarven airships which were involved in the destruction of Theuban, but ironically Sigurd himself prior to the events of Messages of Civilisation had never been on any kind of ship in his life.

Sigurd has been a member of the Children of Jak'ra for the entirety of his life, becoming an Acolyte at the age of 20 and a fully ordained priest ten years later. After his father passed away and his eldest brother Örvar Örvarson became Chief, Sigurd became a wandering warrior-priest, in a similar vein to his mother during her youth, alongside his brother Harald. He is also an experienced blacksmith, though uses these skills more as a form of prayer and as a hobby then as an actual option for a career. Notably, the Greathammer he wields in combat was created by him for his own use. The helmet he wears is also of his own design, but previously belonged to his father rather than being directly made for himself.

He spent the next thirty years wandering around the New World, spreading the word of his Church. This included visits to Caballus, Equinos and Eastward Gaze. Sigurd has also been a pilgrim to Jak'ra's shrine in the heart of the Great Desert, and has achieved such feats as protecting multiple Beastfolk towns and camps from Greenskin raiders, and most recently participating in the Grand Tournament at Caballus on multiple occasions in the one-on-one melee (losing controversially to Erwen de'Valice in the second round in 3A 202, and getting to the quarter-finals in 3A 199, 3A 200, 3A 203 and 3A 204, dropping out due to injury in 3A 205 and being replaced in the bracket by Virion III Quinnlee, who would go on to come first that year.)

After arriving in The City State of Fuk'Mar, he found that the Order of Dark Paladins are not fans of any religions that don't worship The Nameless One nor any races that aren't Troll. Despite the danger to himself, which he was very much aware of, Sigurd remained in the city for a while, performing underground sermons for secret sects of Jak'ra worshippers, who also had been hiding him from the authorities. He also has spent much of these few weeks helping the poor and needy. Recently he has decided that the authorities are getting too close and joining the crew of the Silverwing in order to leave the city undetected.

Following the events of Messages to Civilisation, he resides in Ice Palace in a local Jak'ran commune.
