Biography

A descendant of the colonization-era aristocracy, Alexander Boucher's childhood was spent in an environment of extreme luxury. Once his mother and father grew tired of parenting and moved on to their next leisurely pursuit, he was raised entirely by servants.

At age 18 Alex absconded with a sizable chunk of his family's fortune and joined a far-left-wing activist organization.

-- Background --

-Summary

Always a bit eccentric, even by Shirren standards, Zazure had a relatively lonely adolescence. His parents had little time for much except work, so work is how he bonded with them. The few shirren he convinced to be his friends quickly left when they found he was only interested in their toys.

With no real connections, Zazure had no reason to stay in his hometown after his parents' death. As soon as he felt was reasonable, he joined the military to escape and learn. He was trained in the art of healing and took an interest in mixing and developing potions and poisons.

Kala was born into a small family. Her mother died due to complications of childbirth when she was 4, giving birth to her little sister, Lexi. Kala's father sent her to a preparatory school, hoping she would become an engineer. While Kala made friends and exceeded in physical sports and dancing, she struggled with her academics. She was able to get a scholarship to an academy for dance, but she had to pay her own way for living expenses. She took part time jobs, and made some initial contacts with the local corporation.

When Kala's father passed she was only 20. Lexi was doing well in her schooling and taking much better to academics than Kala ever had, so Kala decided to end her time at the academy early and work full-time. Through some contacts, she began working as a bodyguard for higher level executives at the local corporation. She found the work rewarding, and her skill at both diplomacy and dance helped cement her as one of the most requested guards.

On one mission, Kala was sent to a ball which took place on a meteor which was at the gravitational midpoint between a black hole and a star. That was what initiated her understanding of the stellar life cycle. There was something fundamental about that cycle, and as she understood more, she found that was able to harness some of that cycle's energy.

After a few years working as a bodyguard, after Lexi has been attending college for a bit, and had earned a scholarship, Kala's career took a turn. She got a job with a larger corporation, named Parallax Defense Engineering. It payed a little worse, but had room for growth. She began to go on operations, and learned more combat skills. Her knack for intimidation proved useful more often than not, and she gained some confidence. Unfortunately, her last ward decided to take one too many risks without her there to protect him, and he died.

As a reassignment, Kala was sent to help out a ragtag group of spies. She sees this transfer as punishment for failing to curb the risks of her previous ward and has silently sworn to keep these dumb kids alive. She'd prove her worth to Parallax Defense Engineering and earn her way to the top.

Kala still occasionally makes time to visit her little sister, who just began working on a PhD. Lexi is the last of her family and Kala does her best to hide the dangers that come with her job from Lexi. She spoils Lexi rotten every time she visits and praises her sister for being so dang smart.

A retired AI researcher formerly working for Kaleidoscope Electronics, Amastus attempted to create learning, growing AI (which he termed Organic Intelligence) which could replicate itself into new versions by trading data with other AIs, thereby functionally giving birth to a fully realized species of AI. Several years ago, he apparently abandoned his work and disappeared from the public view, having contracted a case of Core Sickness from a Pinnacle Manufacturing Consortium mining effort.

More recently he has appeared in a hospital on the planet Gyssh, holding the Veldor System system hostage, apparently demanding an exorbitant ransom. In reality, he was planning a forceful invasion of the neighboring Pinnacle Manufacturing Consortium factory planet, Khyyk, for reasons unknown. The invasion was short-lived, as Pinnacle Manufacturing Consortium triggered a self-destruct sequence of detonations across the planet, blaming the demolition on Amastus.

Since the incident on Khyyk, Amastus retreated to a Nameless Planet in an Unnamed System which has largely been devoured by its collapsed sun turned black hole. The planet is slowly being absorbed as well but provides a stable point of gravity around which Amastus has placed two space stations - Keter Station and Malkuth Station. Amastus has holed up on the latter station, closest to the black hole and thus subject to a slower passage of time, in order to buy time to find a cure for Core Sickness

Beatrice presents herself as a member of Via Infinitum, a xenodruid, and a sister to Celestine Dirdova. Apparently a long-time contact of Zimbal's, he asked the party to rescue her from Silvermoon Prison where she was being held on charges of treason with a life sentence. She has mentioned that she did some work with Khaj Manador on Quirinus, but was captured in her attempt to flee once Pinnacle Manufacturing Consortium established a blockade around the planet following their ambush of cloaked Parallax Defense Engineering ships around Zibal.

Zimbal is a "clean contact;" one of the most critical members of the galaxy's loose affiliation of underworld services. Having lived a long life without bringing attention to himself, or winding up with a criminal record, he is well positioned to connect potential clients with their desired sector of the black market.

His age comes with some advantages as well - he appears to be hard of hearing, which he mitigates with an advanced tech hearing aid that allows him to hear, and even record, all the conversations in the room. Additionally, it makes his favorite maneuver (passing off a contact device to a client by fumbling it out of his pocket "on accident") more believable. Despite being blind, he does not seem to have any technological aids to offset the loss of his sight.

Approximately 26 years ago, Perfection Enterprises was deemed too large to continue on as it was; it had made astonishingly large bids for entire star systems, piece by piece or all at once, capitalizing on the greed of the inhabitants. The See of Stars felt that this constituted a threat to the automated republic, and on its behalf the Supporting Council issued an order to break up the company in order to reduce the perceived threat.

The CEO of Perfection, Girheaz Vemune, called a summit with a committee from the Supporting Council with the expressed intention to negotiate the breakup. The Council arrived at his enormous capital ship, the Candi Pawon, expecting a diplomatic welcome. Instead, Girheaz dramatically launched a war that would last decades by remotely detonating his own ship from the safety of a nearby moon, unwilling to relinquish control of his company.

War was formally declared by the See, but too late to get a quick upper hand; Girheaz had assembled a war fleet as soon as the antitrust order was laid on his desk. Although Zibal and the See itself were far enough from Perfection territory to avoid direct attack, the Perfection fleet struck a coordinated assault across the galaxy, destroying critical manufacturing facilities and trade hubs, throwing Kryesor into chaos.

By the time the See could officially arrange an army large enough to fight back the carefully collected might of Perfection, the war had already become a one-sided fight; it took the rallied might of a number of Perfection's lesser competitors to effectively equip the republic with enough ships and weapons to even stand a chance, landing most of them very lucrative long-term contracts as a result.

Even with the majority of the galaxy coming together to face down an unparalleled threat, Perfection appeared to have too much of a head start to be stopped - until the Pinnacle Manufacturing Consortium developed a new resource in CE 120311044 which outclasses anything even Perfection had seen before. With the advent of Pinnacle's patented Crystal products, the republic gained the edge it so badly needed in the war. Even then it took time to emerge victorious - the war would not end for another decade of slow, steady battle, pushing back against the Perfection forces who had encroached further and further towards the political center of the galaxy, vying for power.

On CE 020711054, Girheaz's new flagship, the Barabudur, was destroyed by a veteran Zenith squadron led by then-Colonel Manova. The eleven years since have seen both an enormous rise in Pinnacle's popularity following their critical role in ending the war, and a large-scale focus on helping the galaxy recover from the extended period of conflict.
