Nal'Assinu

Twin Lady of Duality
Deity

Nal'Assinu, also known as the Twin Lady of Duality, the Goddess of Moon and Sun, Matriarch of the Fey-Touched, is a Goddess worshipped by a vast amount of High Elves, and to a lesser extent Wood Elves, on Aranor. Representing the duality of Light and Darkness, Day and Night, and, of course, Sun and Moon, Nal'Assinu is a central figure within the Elven Pantheon and worship, revered for her wisdom and ability to control both light and dark.

History

Little is known of the origins of Nal'Assinu, save for a common Elven legend that has been passed through the ages: It is said that, at the beginning of the world, a pair of Elven twins whose names have been lost to history banded together to stem the tide of incoming darkness creeping in from the shadows of the uttermost north.

What happened after is a great mystery that many Elven scholars ceaselessly debate upon to present day, though a popular theory among academics suggests that the twins were blessed by Alvaranyë, the progenitor goddess of the Elves, to be her successors, fused together in harmony, before she would depart this world. To most mortal eyes, these twins could easily be recognized as the goddesses Lunissa and Alissa, with Nal'Assinu's name being a perfect amalgamation of theirs; How their worship was combined together into a single being is a subject of great mystery.

Worship

As the Goddess of Moon and Sun, worship of Nal'Assinu strongly emphasizes the concept of duality - namely, that Light and Darkness, Moon and Sun, and Day and Night are all two sides of the same coin. In Nal'Assinu doctrine, it is held that one cannot exist without the other; Therefore, both Light and Darkness are regarded as a vital component of the cycle of life, unable to thrive and flourish without one another and intrinsically linked together. This philosophy is also applied to the concept of Good and Evil, albeit to a lesser extent - Both are held as vital to the continued existence of Aranor, eternally in conflict with one another, though in Elven eyes, to let Evil flourish without moving to act is seen as a grave apathy and injustice to the world and the Goddess.

Symbols and Domains

The symbol of Nal'Assinu is half of a pure-silver moon combined together with half of a three-rayed golden sun. Being a representative of Light and Dark, the domains of Nal'Assinu are many, with the most common being the domains of Twilight, Light and Grave. Life, Order and Nature are sometimes also considered a part of Nal'Assinu's domain.
