Expeditions 14 and 15 - Shay and Dalgarn's Accounts

Last pages from the book Arcane Happenings and Righteous Quests in Yeoldelands, written by Shay Longladdle.

The very next day we decided to return to the Redwood Keep. And we went in numbers. Joining our original group were Gorash and Oswick, both accomplished warriors previously acquainted with the rest of the party. Our plan, to eliminate the feline creatures which shot at us from the ramparts.

Before we headed out the local hunters confirmed for us, the giant spiders we slain were indeed of the venomous kind. Something we’d surely have to watch out for in the future.

During the boat trip Rarder attuned his consciousness to the magical sword he was now carrying. To the surprise of none a telepathic voice emerged from it. The sword was called Conciencia and as it turned out, it  was created to destroy users of arcane and their creations. Its previous owner, Coldo the mage hunter, fell to the guardians of the Tome of the Forbidden Knowledge some centuries ago. Poor fool, thought them to be vile creations of arance and attempted to slay them.

This is where the unfinished book abruptly ends. Many of the previous pages charred,  as if damaged by fire. We learn the reason from the journal of certain Dalgarn the Bane of Rats, a dwarf who later joined Rarder and others.

Better move soon. They’re catching up to me. By Grimel and Grom, I can feel it in my bones! Heard my cousin Hats is making a good coin in some mercenary company. Worth a try.

Black thunder! Worse than I thought. Just before I arrived they lost five men attacking a fortified position of some cat people. Three were burned to crisp by their mage. Why even fight them? We should join our forces against those damnable rats. No matter. I’ll be saving my hide first.

Gave me a masterwork shield. Can’t complain, I guess. Trustworthy fools.

Grimel and Grom! A dragon just flew overhead us as we were camping for the night. Where have I gotten myself into?

Arrived at the Redwood Keep. Human construction. Shabby as you’d expect. Already falling apart after a few centuries of disuse.

Caverns lie down below the keep. Inside we fought some undead humans. Little rats never stood a chance. Still have to get used to the shield. Black thunder, the magic it's imbued with has some kick!
