Session 115: 22 November 2022 - Her Dragon’s Song

Calico

Artesian guests, sit at the table. One addresses them, focusing his attention on Alke. Xan glanced sideways at her, Alke looking less medusa and more human than before; a disguise again.

He approaches Alke. She is staring uncomfortably.

“I didn’t expect to see you… any time soon” she says to the man - Orin?

He seemd disappointed when she reveals her disguise in her human form. He is older, a grandfatherly type, great grandfatherly even. Alke reaches her arm out to him to steady his footing. They shuffle away as Alke speaks gently of their history - a history before she was with the Oracle’s Chosen.

The table before them is set for a hearty breakfast; cheese and onion flan, salads with mushrooms and autumn vegetable soup and an array of treats. Xan walks to sit next to the youngest looking Aresian guest, and takes a seat next to them as she fills her plate with the cheese flan and takes a bite.

At the table Xan piles her plate with food, and throws a small flan towards Braz as he sits.

Braz sparks up conversation with Tideree, asking after Damon, the Aquan guards and the island.

Tideree comments on Damon - “you trust him with every moment of your existence,” she continues “he studied from me, hundreds of years ago… it’s rare to meet someone who can open a door to us and speak to us.” It seems Damon fascinates her. She comments too on the Lotus witch - banished from her kind, and probably quite bored. A room with portals to different places would be quite the entertainment.

Braz agrees with Tideree for a lift along to the Island of Themis.

Calliope seems to get agitated. Probably annoyed by something Xan is doing, and thunders out to the fresh air. Xan buries her head in her hand and continues eating.

A shout comes from outside. Something about fire and the ship. Xan speeds away towards her ship, diving into the water after Calliope and Hipofilius. She reaches the island to find Calliope holding her precious egg… and taking off to the skies as she unexpectedly flies up into the air.

The boat arrives with Helikaon, Alke and Braz, and as soon as it does it is decided to follow the siren back to Tiderees island.

They arrive to find Calliope with a small dragon clasped around her shoulder. Seemingly sleeping. Smaller. Newborn. Helikaon approaches her and speaks gently. Xan hangs back.

The words are on the coin, Helikaon says. Xan pulls her own coin from her robes, and looks at the words as Calliope speaks and sings.

The dragon seems pleased, a nickname emerges, little Callico.

Tidree dismisses them from her island, asking them to depart with their fire bringer.

Before they turn in for the night Xan carefully draws a pattern on the back of her door, following the ups and downs of Calliopes song, of her oath to her dragon.

Towards Themis

As night falls, Tideree pushes the ship away, allowing them to drift towards what seems to be the direction of Themis.

Not an island like Fire Island, the glow fo the volcano. Not like the Isle of Exiles with the spots of the city. Not like Scorpion Island with it’s optical illusion of a tower.

A large, intimidating island. The most vast of all islands in the Cerulean Gulf. Approaching the eastern bay, full of rocks jutting out from the water, as if to say stay away. The Ultros is at risk if we approach from this island. Looking out into the bay they can spot a small prison island. Across on to the beach a herd of strange speckled creatures with long necks gather.

Moxena appears in full amazonian armour. Xan flinches as she sees her appear. Two crew members follow her.

“FInally, I think it’s about time we take my kingdom back, don’t you?”
