Exploring the Catacombs of Citadel Altaerein

Moonday, Lamashan 7, 4719

Before we returned to the depths of the Citadel. Eevie approaches Jae and Krystoff to tell them she’s unfortunately not coming with.

Her near brushes with death are too much for her to bear. She would still provide us with useful items to take with us on the day. But she was done with combat as the risk was too high.

Krystoff and Jae understood and thanked her for her help so far. They made their way down to the depths.

They returned to the crypt where the Wights had attached, and Jae inspected the symbol on the wall, and identified it as having death magic.  By using his fingernail and knowing exactly what to do, he managed to deactivate it.

The tombs themselves had a few +1 Weapons we collected, but we made an effort to not desecrate the bodies.

We decided to go after the “whisper” we heard at the end of the hall.

When we went into the room we didn’t find anything. Eventually we discovered the sound was being made by an invisible Soulbound doll, so we took it out. There were also some obsidian figurines laying about on the floor it was controlling with Mage Hand.

As we entered another room, Krystoff found himself engulfed by a Gelatinous cube, nearly invisible right in the doorway.

Finding himself unable to move or breath, and taking Acid damage, it was up to Jae to get him out alive.

In another adjacent room we met two Kobolds who lived alongside the Bumblebrashers before the cult arrived. We didn’t get much useful information from them.

We keep exploring the area and find some Hellknight Paintings that seem to be valuable. So we remove them from their frames and took them with us. One of them was signed by a family member of Alak.

We continued to explore the southern portion, and found no resistance from the corpses. Found some more +1 Weapons.

We found a room that looked like an archive or vault. There was dust all over and some footprints that seemed recent, as well as some symbols on a table that implied some sort of ritual had taken place in this room.

After rummaging through the room, we found some scrolls that Jae kept, a silver bowl with a Deity’s symbol on it, and in a locked box, Jae found a ring we assumed was the one Alak was searching for.

There was a door that lead to a tiny room, and what seemed to be a tunnel dug into the rock. Other than that and some Hellknight Banners, there was not much else of use in this area. Jae and Krystoff decided to go into the tunnel to see where it led.

After HOURS of walking through a winding rock tunnel, with concern about running out of oil for Krystoff’s Lantern. They eventually reached a trap door that led to a hidden passage under a rug in what seemed to be a bar’s storage room with Pickled ears and other good everywhere.

Jae and Krystoff exited the room to find they had walked most of the day and the bar was already quite busy. They approached the Bar and talked to the proprietess of the establishment… the Pickled Ear.

After some conversation with the plump woman named Roxie, along some casual flirting that got her hopes up and flashing both Krystoff’s pearly whites and goldie eyes, she spilled the beans.

She had been allowing Voz to use the passage under her bar, but she didn’t know where it was going nor what she was doing. But the bar was going through hard times and Voz paid well for it’s use and her silence.

Krystoff felt bad about leading her on to get information.

Him and Jae decided to stay there for a bit to get some drinks. Jae got bored and used Prestidigitation to make someone’s drink taste like urine and cause a bar fight.

They met up with Alak at the Wizard’s Grace, and gave him his Father’s ring and the painting we found.  He was extremely thankful and considered them as good friends.

They then went to sleep.
