The March of the Dawn Titan

Battle
1494 DR

In 1494 DR, Bohu, the Entity Divded, a Dawn Titan and Elder Evil, was unleashed on Toril and marched towards Hellgate Dell. It marched for a tenday and was upon the locale of Myth Glaurach, near Hellgate Dell on the day the Hawthorne Guild gathered to battle against it. The Hawthorne Guild stopped it before reaching its final destination.

The Last Step

On the dawn of the fateful day, adventurers of the Hawthorne Guild and members of the different factions gathered for a grand Heroes’ Feast at Shadowtop Cathedral, compliments of the White Queen, emboldening and invigorating each individual partaking in it. The feast was followed by the preparations necessary to fight and seal the Titan once and for all. On that morning, in Shadowtop Cathedral, thousands were rallying, packing their bags with magical items, receiving buffs from the various spellcasters, saying farewells, and getting themselves ready for what could be their final battle. Then, they all headed out to Hellgate Dell.

Among the different parties at the Battle of Hellgate Dell, adventurers of the Hawthorne Guild assigned themselves into different groups based on different objectives, each a different piece in the puzzle needed to defeat the Titan.

One group was tasked with ensuring that the RAS Brighthorn of the Pan Realm Alliance could follow one of the groups going inside the Titan and protect them from the various threats that would prevent their entry or that would try to follow in after them. They were successful in their objectives, but as time passed, the aberrations were swarming them more and more.

During that same time, a second group’s objective was to accompany Madam Misty into the dream town of Un-Farther, where it was believed they could disrupt the veil interfering with magic, granting the other parties an easier access to reach the cores of the Titan. Severing the last cord, they communicated with the other parties inside the Titan, letting them know they could teleport closer to the cores, which they did.

In the air and on the ground, many adventurers of the Hawthorne Guild fought to defend Hellgate Dell from the swarms of aberrations threatening the area, keeping them occupied so that the other groups could succeed on their objectives. Three other groups set out to make their way inside the Titan, and reach the three different cores, the stomach, the heart and the head, where they would use their artifacts to seal the titan. Simultaneously, these groups used the Cube of Rubex, the Codex of Infinite Planes and the Dynakinetic Transmutation Matrix, hopeful that this would be enough to seal off the Titan.

For a second, it seemed like time completely stopped, the artifacts seemed like they had been used in vain, the aberration swarms ceased to move, and the adventurers themselves felt as if they were lost in time and space, aimlessly floating in place. Then in an instant, a radiant and blinding light seared throughout Toril, emanating from the three artifacts. Within the Titan, the pages of the Codex began to detach themselves one by one from the book, flew rapidly around the room and vanished, gone to places unknown.

The radiant light ascended into the sky, piercing through the Veil and the fiery glyph in the sky across Toril began to fade away. The world trembled as the Titan collapsed in place, frozen in stasis by the ruins of Hellgate Dell, only a few miles away from its destination,  Myth Glaurach. The Split Tooth Mountain, which was once a part of the Graypeak Mountains, was now resting at the northeast end of the High Forest within Hellgate Dell.

The groups inside the Titan felt themselves fall as it collapsed, and the defending groups resumed their battles with a newfound hope, believing that this meant the Titan had finally been sealed. The rifts to the Far Realm that had dotted the battlefield had vanished, and the allied forces spent hours slaying the remaining aberrations one by one, never stopping, no matter how exhausted they had been. They kept going, and they kept fighting until there was not one single threat remaining.

Once the final battle was over, everyone rallied to the Shadowtop Cathedral, carrying the bodies found on the battlefield and tending to the wounded. An even more grand feast was made to celebrate the victory of the heroes, where bards were already singing songs about the epic battle and the sacrifices that had been made, and in between the songs, speeches of gratitude, pride and hope were filling the silence.

The man known as Blank stood and took his turn to speak.

‘’I want to express my gratitude to all of you gathered here. Thanks to all of  you, and to those we lost in the battle. Yes, we may have lost some of our friends and allies tonight, but they’re still with us.’’

He puts his hand on his chest, over where his heart is.

‘’They didn’t die in vain. They died so that we may keep moving forward and slowly rebuild what was destroyed. They died so that Toril as we know it remained. And I would like for us to spend a minute so that we can honor, and mourn them in silence.’’

He closes his eyes, a solemn expression on his face. After a minute, he speaks once more.

‘’May we keep honoring their sacrifice today by the way we live tomorrow.’’

He raises his glass.

‘’Here’s looking at you, heroes.’’

From this day on, the Hawthorne Guild would only grow stronger. Their commitment to keep Toril a safer place would be renewed and even though there would be rough times ahead for the members of the guild, even though now their home was gone, they now know that together… they can accomplish anything.

Epilogue

  • With the Titan’s body now present at Hellgate Dell, Turlang and the treants under his command have now taken to watching over the Titan’s body, the Split-Tooth Mountain,  along with Hellgate Dell itself. New Nivix has also begun setting up a new outpost in the area to help keep an eye on the Dynakinetic Transmutation Matrix within the Titan and to watch for any signs of trouble.
  • The Order of the Gauntlet, the Emerald Enclave, and New Nivix left the battle with renewed and strengthened alliances with the guild. The Hawthorne Guild had gained a measure of respect from the Caerilcarn as well as Turlang and his watchers for their help in defending the High Forest and Myth Glaurach.
  • The man known as Joker and the researcher Harleen congratulated themselves on completing their mission of distracting the Hawthorne Guild. The two set out to watch the world burn from a distance, but when the Hawthorne Adventurers saved the day, they departed, laughing, thinking about their future mischiefs. What they have planned ahead is yet unknown, but given their insanity and the fact they’ve got nothing to lose, whatever it is, it likely won’t be good.
  • Un-Farther, being created solely by the presence of the Titan on Toril, disappeared once it was sealed, the only remnant of it being Howard, who, acting as an anchor to the material plane, was able to remain.
  • As far as anyone knows, Labyrinth was dissolved, but Anton, the Dungeon Master, and the Order of the Maze established themselves inside the gigantic mountain that served as the body of the Titan where they continued their worship of Ubtao. Both a burden and a blessing, they quickly began setting up puzzles and traps throughout the mountain, preventing people from easily getting to the Cube of Rubex while keeping an eye on it as well.
  • The remaining forces of the Order of the Void on the battlefield and within the Titan were repelled. The Hand of the Void was destroyed, though not before promising that he would be back. The rest of the Order of the Void on Toril disappeared back into the shadows, their plans foiled.
  • With the death of Ethelda Krastovich, the Council of Necrotic Divinity has been dissolved. Her plans to absorb the Titan’s powers in order to ascend to godhood were perhaps never achievable. Two now ex-members survived, Victor Krum and Moira Lonaster.
  • The Hawthorne Guild captured a changeling who was using the Order of the Rising Phoenix’s resources to fund some horrific research. The Order of the Rising Phoenix has now started to mobilize their forces to aid in the efforts to rebuild what the titan has destroyed.
  • Sonder and his group spent some time with the heroes on the night where the world was saved, but went to bed early and, in the morning, they were nowhere to be found.
  • Since Lerwick was destroyed when the titan was unleashed, a new location was selected for the rebuilding of a town where the Hawthorne Guild will reside. The process began a few days after the defeat of the titan. A Teleportation Circle was made to give easier access to those who wished to help rebuild. The location is in the Fields of the Dead, on the coast between Baldur’s Gate and Waterdeep.
