House Hargen have ruled over their lands for as long as anyone can remember and in all that time they have stayed loyal to the House of Sleth. Whilst they lost some of their lands to the west after the Treaty of the North they still rule of over much of their ancestral home. The land itself isn't really land at all most of it is an giant ice shelf that grows thin in places and the place is covered with icy pools, holes in the thick ice that lead to the ocean below. As a result the Hargen are known for fishing which makes up a substantial part of their economy.

The Hargen fish with cold water sucker fish. A rope is tied to the sucker fish’s tail and the sucker fish is dropped into the water when a targeted fish is sighted in one of the ice pools. The sucker is lowered into the pool and then swims towards the target fish and uses its razor sharp teeth to attach itself to it, clamping on, the Hargen fisherman then yanks fast on the rope pulling them both out. If the sunray is bigger enough it might take several fishermen and several sucker fish.

As a result of the importance of the ice pools and the thinness of the ice unlike the Sleth, Whites and Runenar who all ride giant wooly rhino the Hargen ride giant ice frogs.

These amphibian creatures are able to swim if they breakthrough thin ice and can even be used in an emergency to dive under the ice and swim between pools. As a result the standard Hargen cold suit also contains and breathing kit and aqua lung - meaning the rider can breath if suddenly plunged into the icy water. In order to allow them to swim at greater depths some of them deliberately burst their eardrums and as a result may be hard of hearing. Many of the warriors where the Face Masks of the Hargen permanently.

There are rumours that in one of the ice pools a bandit practising Rogue Archeology discovered the remains of a sunken city of the Age of Unbalance.
