Recent History
The Dark Elves are one of the more reclusive races on Oerth, tending not to come up to the surface from their underground dwellings unless they have to. However, occasionally you will get one or two who decide to venture out into the wider world to explore or to expand their mental horizons.

General Description
The Dark Elves are the most visually distinctive of the Elven subraces, with snow-white skin, silvery hair and eyes with extremely deep indigo irises that almost look black in some lights. They are also a little shorter than the other Elven races due to adapting to living in underground tunnels.

Perfect Night Vision
Having adapted to life underground with next to no visible light, the Dark Elves have eyes that give them the best night vision of any race on Oerth. Their distinctive indigo eyes are adapted to take in as much light as possible, and they have a reflective layer at the back of their retina similar to that of a Catfolk. This makes them able to see perfectly in near-absolute darkness but also makes their eyes incredibly sensitive to light to the point where normal outdoor light levels are blinding and in fact can cause permanent optical damage; due to this, any Dark Elves making a trip or living above ground will wear a pair of face-flush wrap-around glasses with black quartz lenses during daylight hours to reduce the amount of light reaching their eyes to a safe level.

Culture
As the majority of Dark Elves live underground little is known about their culture first-hand. What is known however indicates a lifestyle not particularly far removed from the traditional lifestyle of the Elves. it is rumoured that they invented the Glockenspiel.

Sub-Race Creation Additional

+1 Cha

Special Eyes: Thanks to your race’s adaptations having lived for generations underground, your Darkvision has a range of 120 feet, instead of 60. However, you have disadvantage on attack rolls and Perception checks that rely on sight when you, the target of the attack, or whatever you are trying to perceive is in direct sunlight. This sensitivity is negated if you are wearing black quartz glasses.

Magic of the Night: You know the Dancing Lights cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the Faerie Fire spell once, and it recharges after a long rest. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the Darkness spell once, and it recharges after a long rest. Cha is your spellcasting ability for these spells.
