SHIGEKO'S DOSSIER: I have implied that Otado may be an illegitimate child (P6). This may not be so, since he does resemble Korechika (P5) somewhat in appearance. In behavior, however, they are far apart - though not so far as I might have hoped.

Where Korechika is polite, Otado is crude and graceless. Where Korechika hides his venom with a mask of friendship, you always know what Otado is thinking - and it's rarely pleasant. Korechika's subtlety is thrown into high relief by Otado's blatant indiscretions. Though only sixteen, Otado has already been reprimanded by Hyobu herself for a public brawl in a den of vice.

In short, he has the cruelty of the Scorpion and the base appetites of the Crab, mated to the crassness of the Unicorn.

Encountering Akodo Tadashi walking down the street with Emily Stark, he spat on the ground and proceeded to goad Akodo until a fight broke out. Tamori Gojinka appeared and broke things up, but not before he had slashed open Akodo's cheek.

As she told you, Usagi Kamahime ran into him during a trip to Ryoko Owari a few years ago when they were teenagers. She "bumped" into him and inadvertently caused offense. The Scorpion, likely picking on Usagi as an extension of the already tense relations between the two clans and due to her lesser position as a member of a Minor Clan, challenged her outright. Though lacking in the full status of an adult samurai at the time the adolescents nonetheless attempted to settle their dispute in an imitation of an adult duel. That is, she ended up beating him with a stick until he ran off while trying not to cry.

Already having motive, the championship has seemingly provided him with both means and opportunity to settle the score. As a competitor Kamahime-san is highly visible, making it relatively easy for someone with an existing grudge to have noticed and located her.
