Weapon Notes

Cahulaks: Cahulaks are a pair of weapons that resemble grappling hooks attached by a length of rope. In melee one is gripped in each hand and used as a pair of weapons. They can also be thrown like a weighted net. A successful hit means the target is Entangled. The Cahuluks are Hardness 10 and vulnerable only to cutting attacks.

Chatkcha: This is a unique kreen weapon almost always made from their unique crystal dasyl (although rare flint, obsidian and even metal versions exist). Due to it’s aerodynamics it will return to the wearer if it misses. Catching a returning Chatkcha requires an Agility roll and hand protection (thri-kreen’s natural chitin serves them fine).

Dejada: A long, scooped basket fitted to a glovelike bracer, the dejada is used to hurl projectiles. Ammunition can be a fist-sized stone, but the weapon is also used to extend the range of explosive alchemical mixtures.

Double Weapon: Athas is home to a number of double weapons, each of which share statistics but bear different visual designs.

  • Gythka: Each end of this thri-kreen staff has a small, crescent-shaped blade with a centered stabbing tine
  • Lotulis: This short-staffed double weapon sports outward-pointing, barbed crescent blades on each end.
  • Dragon Paw: Short blades attach to either end of this staff. In the center of this double weapon is a guard with a protruding blade perpendicular to the staff.

Forearm Axe: A forearm axe is a simple weapon: a wood or leather bracer with axe heads extending from both sides. Forearm axes cannot be quick drawn, they take a full round to strap on or take off but once worn they cannot be disarmed.  (Wrist Razors, a gauntlet with two or three blades extending over the knuckles, are a similar weapon that has effectively identical stats.)

Tortoise Blade: Tortoise Blades are bucklers with short dagger-blades extending from the knuckles in front of the blade. They are often constructed from an actual tortoise shell.

Whip: Although a whip is impractical as a weapon in most circumstances, some opponents are prone to underestimating the wielder of a whip, which can lead them to attack rashly or make other mistakes.
