Oceanyka, still sometimes known post-independence as Australia, is a confederation of tribes, villages, towns and city-states located in the continent of Oceania. It is an anarchic land filled with treasure, danger, cruelty and death. Outside of the palisades of villages, the stone walls of towns, the sniper towers of cities and the bunkers of colonial outposts anarchy reigns, and he with the biggest gun wins. Oceanyka autonomously developed two different civilisations which had been at war with each other for millennia before the arrival of foreign settlers; the Aboriginals and the Ferozen. In their last great war, they destroyed each other, leaving the continent ripe for British colonisation. This state of affairs lasted for almost a century, greatly enriching the Empire, but Oceanyka reached independence through bloody revolution in the late 19th century, as a confederation between all peoples within it. Originally aligned with the West, a left-wing revolution in the capital has brought it closer to the Moscow Pact, under the leadership of President Alan Redfort.

The United States of America under the leadership of President Theodore Roosevelt (who won the 1912 presidential race as nominee of the Progressive Party) declared war on the Central Powers on April 25th, 1916. This put Germany in an extremely dire situation, though the practical collapse of the Russian Army later that year allowed the Deutsches Heer, the Austro-Hungarian K.u.K. and the Italian Army to transfer dozens of divisions westward. Fortunately, preparations for Unternehmen Zeidrack were almost complete later that year. On the 26th of October, 1916, 54 German divisions went on the assault in the region around the city of Dijon, beginning the Battle of Dijon. They were reinforced by numerous Sturmtruppen units, as well as the first mass-produced German tanks, which faced off against the far heavier but less mobile British Mark Is to the surprise of German leadership. Within the week, all Entente forces in the area had been routed, and mobile warfare resumed. German air superiority allowed their ground units to manoeuvre freely. The Deutsches Heer pushed in a wide flanking manoeuvre parallel to the Saone and Loire rivers, threatening the rear of the French Army in the Alps. Temporarily unable to respond to the new weapons and tactics that the Germans had brought about so suddenly, the French decided to retreat hastily towards Guyenne and Gascony, ceding some of France's most important industrial areas, ore mines and the hardy Alpine defences. Italian troops crossed to reinforce the southern sector and mop up pockets of resistance, freeing Germany's assault units for further actions.

By February of 1917, though the northern Deutsches Heer units were in no position to attack across the Seine (mainly entrenched and with low concentrations, all bridges destroyed long ago), the southern German-Italian task force threatened to bypass this line entirely through the south. The French government decided to fight until the last man, though morale in the British and American Expeditionary Forces had sunk to an all-time low. The British leadership, desperate to find a victory to report back home, sailed to meet the German fleet off the coast of Jutland.

The Tupolev Tu-22's problems did not go unnoticed. As a result, the Tupolev design bureau proposed an entirely new design which would share its name with its predecessor for political reasons; the Tu-22M. This supersonic swept-wing bomber could carry twice the payload, over a greater distance, was much more controllable and far more reliable. Only prototypes of this to-be-legendary aircraft have been observed.

The Oceanykan Peoples' Army Military Police Corps, or the "MPs" as they're usually known, are the law-enforcement body of the OPA. Unusually well-trained and professional, the MPs maintain order in the Federation's standing army. Furthermore, there are several independent units of MPs which are stationed in Cestlep, aiding the Federal Police in law enforcement, especially in the city's affluent and politically important central district.

In July of 1950, the United States chose to intervene in the Korean War on the side of the Republic of Korea, forming the first United Nations Command. In its first engagement, the recently flown in Task Force Smith was almost annihilated by a communist armoured assault. This put into evidence that demilitarisation had left the US Armed Forces woefully underequipped to fight modern mechanised warfare. By August, UN control was limited to a small perimeter around the city of Busan, where US, ROK and allied forces put a desperate defence. As a general counter-offensive seemed impossible, the US sought an alternative solution which had worked against the French; a massive amphibious invasion.

The Tasman Whale is a subspecies of the mighty blue whale, reaching up to 30m in length. As its name suggests, it mainly inhabits the bountiful Tasman Sea which lies between eastern Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand, though significant populations have been found across the Pacific and Indian oceans.

Though not significantly different from others in its species in physical terms, the Tasman Whale is incredibly violent and reaches maturity faster due to its year-long aggressive feeding habits.
