This article is about the worship of Malleo, for information about the Deity see Malleo.

Malleo is the almighty God of Smithing and Justice in the Realms Pantheon. His skill with the forge is said to have forged the mountains themselves, and he has been considered the arbitor of celestial justice, settling disputes even amongst the gods themselves.

"There is Right and there is Wrong, these are absolutes. Where there is Right there is community, where there is Wrong there should be Justice."

Worshippers

Malleo is called upon by those who wish to see justice, and in the hope he will guide them to make moral judgements and decisons in their own life. He is also called upon by craftsmen, so that he may bless their forge and guide their hand and hammer as they create. Malleo also holds particular significance for Dwarves, with some stories claiming that he forged the first dwarves, and others that he created the mountain range that would become their home.

Clerics and Priests

Priests and Priestesses of Malleo are often highly involved with the local justice systems, working either to uphold them or to improve them. Many serve as judges themselves in some capacity, although some have been known to lead personal crusades against those they believe to have most strongly disregarded the moral law. They also maintain and often work the forges found in the temples. The position of High Priest is currently held by Barakas.

Temples

Temples to Malleo often double as courthouses and/or possess their own forge for smithing new weapons to continue the moral fight in Malleo’s name. The temples are often filled with the clanging sound of metalwork, kept silent only when judgement is being passed inside. The High Temple of Malleo can be found in Cerebon.

Beliefs

Followers of Malleo tend to follow and uphold moral laws as dictated to them by their teachings very seriously. Certain acts are considered to be unforgiveable no matter the circumstances, with harsh sentences given to those who have committed murder, in the case of sexual assault, and with regards to summoning demons and the undead. Whilst all worshippers agree on this, different sects have different ideas about how to best enact justice.

Some take the view that executions do not count as murder but instead result in the ultimate justice being obtained, whilst others favour retribution or imprisonment as punishment for their crimes. Some champion the formalities of a trial where justice is sought through the weighing of evidence by a judge or a jury. Others meanwhile see themselves as judge, jury, and executioner upon being supplied with the proper evidence.

Ultimately, regardless of whether a person's immoral actions were justly punished in life, it is believed that Malleo will ensure that they are justly punished in death, though that is not a reason to allow injustice to continue unchecked in life, lest more injustice spread.

Holy Day

Trywax is dedicated to Malleo, with dedicated followers and pantheon followers alike leaving more offerings to Malleo throughout the month. At the mid-point of Trywax lies Malleo's Holy Day, Hammer's Dusk is a time of making important decisions and setting plans in stone for the coming months. The latter is traditionally literal, with plans and commitments carved into stone tablets and kept throughout the year as a reminder. Forging is also a key aspect to the festival, with forgers competing against each other in their community to prove their expertise of the craft.

Religious Rites

Offerings - Along with usual donations of gold, offerings to Malleo may include metals, forged items, and stone.

Funeral Rites - Followers of Malleo are often laid to rest in stone tombs, in stone caskets or stone urns, with a funerary hammer held to the chest, or rested beside the urn. Many followers of Malleo carve their own tombs and forge their own funerary hammer, with the community coming together to help assist and finish their work where needed. Followers are often buried with their finest weapon they forged, with a weapon often being forged for them where there are none.

Afterlife

Those dedicated to Malleo's worship believe that when they die they shall enter The Mountain Forge, a warm place of community centred around a great forge. Dwarves in particular speak of how their clans, stretching all the way back to the first dwarves, are gathered here to welcome them.
