The Discord Among the Gods refers to the conflict and disagreement created by Beld's creation of Beldkind and their influence on the world of El-Bayir. Most of His sibings were skeptical of Beld's creation and would have preferred a world untainted by Beldkind's cities and homes. As Deshen, King of Mankind, became more and more prideful and arrogant, this suspicion grew into open criticism and frequent conflict and debate. This culminated in the War of the Gods, in which Apollyon and Donere betrayed the Gods and attempted to destroy the world with the help of the Abyss Lord Waazi. Because they intended to cast the world into the Abyss, their efforts were opposed by most of the Gods, but many of the Gods fighting against the Abyss still agreed that Beldkind were not fit for El-Bayir, manifesting this through their casual disregard for the life of Beld's creation, who often lived on their battlefields. The Discord ended following Bouwen's Second Awakening. After defeating the Abyss forces and rebuilding El-Bayir, Bouwen announced that Beldkind's destiny had become intertwined with Lumenar, and they were now a crucial part of the world. He announced that no God may attempt to take action to intentionally destroy the race of Beldkind.

The Discord was divided into three "factions."

  • The Changers, led by Beld, felt that Beldkind had earned its place upon the world and should be assisted and fostered by the Gods. The Changers ultimately won out after Bouwen sided with them in the fallout of the War of the Gods.
  • The Conservatives, led by Tover, felt that the world had been at its best before Beld's unanticipated creation of sentient life. They were alarmed by the seemingly unstoppable nature of Man and felt it best that the world be reverted to some sort of previous state.
  • The Purifiers, led by Apollyon, felt that the world had been irrevocably tainted by Beldkind, especially following the First Sin. They believed that the world must be returned to the primordial Abyss. Additionally, they held that the fact that Beld had been able to commit such an unprecedented act demonstrated a failure on Bouwen's part and a demonstration of His unfitness to properly create a world. As such, the Purifiers believed that Apollyon should usurp Bouwen and recreate the world in His vision, not simply return to Bouwen's way.
