I am outsider to this place, and yet I have bent it to My will. The hordes of the Abyss bow before Me and go where I direct them. In the chaos, fire, and darkness, I am omnipresent and God over all. And soon I will bring My perfect dominion to all the realms, and you pitiful Children of Beld will be unable to escape My wrath or taint Creation anymore.
- Apollyon on the Abyss and His intentions, excerpt from the Orange Book of the Harbinger
Apollyon is the God of Destruction and Disease. He is also the Lord of the Abyss, a title he took after his exile. Apollyon was created by Bouwen with the express purpose of destroying the World should Bouwen and the other Gods stray from the "proper path." Apollyon believes that the creation of Mankind, especially their sins, are demonstrative of the failure. Apollyon's first great act was to steal the fire of D'yi and turn it against Her children. Followers of Apollyon are imbued with great powers, becoming powerful and dangerous magicians should Apollyon deem them worthy. However, should they be deemed unworthy, they are destroyed. Apollyon's adherents anticipate his return to destroy El-Bayir, and work to help him in his quest. Though he is a lord of destruction, he is also incredibly subtle. He manipulates the insecurities of men to turn them against one another, thereby causing fracture, strife, and chaos. His ultimate goal is the destruction of Beldkind and recreation of the world in his image, but he usually works through more "small scale" projects, supporting those whose power and success he deems destructive to the world at large. He often comes to people under the guise of someone else, usually posing as an angel in service to one of the good Gods. He will manipulate and deceive Beldkind into actions which are ultimately destructive to the world.
Since the War of the Gods, He has been imprisoned beneath the World and kept at bay by the powerful dreams of Bouwen. Bouwen keeps Apollyon locked in the dreamscape, where He endlessly fights to wake up and escape His prison. The sleeping Apollyon's stirrings are said to be the cause of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and other disasters.
Apollyon's Dark Eye is a common sight of dread.
