A Sanarian Welcome

Peas Recap
2020-03-08
  • Covered in the muck from the enchantment granted by Gulchax, the party had to figure a way to dispel the curse before showing up at the border to Sanaris
    • Incapable of casting Dispel Magic on everyone, Phaelnah decided to seek Aeltra’s wisdom, with the members of the party creating a prayer circle of sorts.
      • Leadbelly decided to refrain from participating in the ritual, perhaps considering the jealous nature of his god.
    • After a long time attempting to focus on the communion, made difficult by the stench and horror of the filth, Phaelnah finally made contact with her goddess as Aeltra guided the cleric to use her Aeltra’s Healing
    • Once again casting the powerful spell in return for a bit of self-harm, the slime flowing from everyone quickly crumbled into fertile earth, destroying the enchantment
      • Eugene also was covered in dirt, but soon became filthy and greasy once again
    • The power from the repeated casting of the spell seemingly bolstered the surrounding forest and claimed the place of power for Aeltra. A great tree rose from the center of the altar as thick vines rose up around its sides, forming a canopy, and creating something like a room. The stone of the altar was soon no longer visible as the vines grew throughout, forming small altar and a doorway leading out of the new temple. A spring began to trickle up next to the base of the tree, as the vines funneled the water down and out of the temple room.
  • Fearing what his god might do to him if he remained with people that outwardly defied him, Eugene bid the party farewell, but not before leaving Journey with a strange, enchanted bag of sand.
  • Clean and rested, the group set back out on the road again towards the border.
    • On the night of the 28th, Phaelnah successful fought back the corruption of the Nightblight.
  • On the road northward the party encountered a strange old lady who seemed interested in the trade of personally valuable objects
    • Journey gave her a copy of Cavernous Cravings, and the lady, claiming the book with a long, bony arm, took the book and stuffed it deep into a strange-looking sack. In exchange, she fished out a twig, which she gave to the tiefling.
    • Various members made offers to the woman, but she was completely disinterested is deals that didn’t have at least a small amount of personal sacrifice.
    • She took Grognock’s displacer beast jerky, giving him an odd mirror in return
    • Seamus refused to give up his bag of peas, despite encouragement from other members of the party
    • The woman took her leave, citing prior arrangements. For a brief moment she stretched her legs, towering over the entire party, before shrinking back to her hunched form and continuing on her way.
  • Wander took some time to cast Identify on a few of the items the party had found
  • Keeping watch while the others slept, Journey and Leadbelly just barely managed to spot a figure sneaking around the side of the group’s encampment, heading north
    • After the rest of the party awoke, Wander got Phaelnah to cast light on a stone which he threw over to the shadowy figure, revealing a man with a satchel and fine clothes, scared for his life
    • After a round of questioning, the man revealed he was just a messenger making his way to the wall of Oashara. The party remained suspect as the man slowly shifted away from them, breaking into a full sprint once he had a good distance
    • Tyerjon decided to stealthily follow the man, easily catching up to him without his notice.
      • He then attempted to take the man’s satchel, and as the man turned to face his assailant, he went into shock from seeing Tyerjon’s face, falling to the ground seizing.
    • Grognock attempted to administer aid to the man, taking him back to their camp.
    • In the morning, the man awoke as Phaelnah attempted to calm him down. He took off walking quickly from the encampment.
    • The group eventually caught up to the man, who took off running, but was quickly overtaken, as he fell from exhaustion. The party kept their course.
  • Finally, the party made it to the great marble walls of Oashara, and after an introduction from Phaelnah, the group was escorted into the wall by a guard.
    • The group was taken to a room in order to process their arrival, and were told to wait for just a bit
      • Tyerjon took a piece of fruit from a glass bowl on the table, and unable to bite into it, ended up squeezing it with all his might, eventually popping it all over the room, notably on the forms on the table in front of him.
      • Wander created an illusion on the papers to make them seem clean
    • The processor finally entered the room, introducing himself as Vendylei Faeduleyr, Storykeeper, Speaker of Eagles, and Eye of the Wall.
      • Vendylei picked up the papers on the desk, dispelling the illusion. He made Tyerjon pay 5 gold for their replacement.
    • Vendylei received various forms of identification from the party, and made them fill out various forms and pay various fees in order to satisfy various requirements and various rules
      • Notably, Wander introduced himself as a noble of the house Wanders, creating a fake house sigil in the shape of a boat.
      • Seamus, as Murica, was introduced as a servant under the house Ellarian.
      • Journey introduced herself as being from the Shrewboro Woods of Wolkaea
      • Leadbelly presented himself as Leadbelly Fargus of the Leadbelt Peaks, which Vendylei marked as the Farlands
      • Grognock gave Vendylei a symbol of the Mending Palm, claiming himself to be a member of the monastery
      • Tyerjon gave a meandering backstory, and Vendylei marked him as being from the Farlands
      • Phaelnah presented the symbol of her house, and claimed herself to be nobility
      • Tyerjon opened the Screaming Sword in the middle of the room, breaking Vendylei's fruit bowl. Vendylei fined Tyerjon 10 gold for a replacement.
      • The group claimed to be seeking Deowyn Centhos on the Council of Dreamers at the behest of Razodon Goswin.
    • While to group waited for their papers to be processed, a nervous guard approached them, giving them an ad read from a script about the magically-infused identification bracelets they already bought.
    • After a bit of time and a plethora of fees, the group was successfully processed, and were given special magical bands that contained their identification papers.
  • The group, tired after a morning of travel and an afternoon of paperwork and waiting, took the evening to go drinking in a Sanarian tavern, which ended in much of the group getting drunk or high off of the powerful Sanarian spirits.
    • The next morning, Wander purchased some ared’wen wine to give as presents to the group. Seeing him buying wine, Grognock and Tyerjon also purchased some.
  • The group set off in the morning of the 1st of Endelshine, making their way up the road to Hymathel.
  • Making camp on the 1st, the party had a small celebration for Auranpall, a holiday in honor of Aeltra that marks the beginning of Unavet (fall).
    • Phaelnah made tea for the party, and Wander presented her with her gag gift of an orange and black dress. She didn’t complain, likely in the spirit of the holiday.
    • Journey presented Phaelnah with the large diamond she received from Eugene.
  • Midmorning on the 2nd, the group encountered a fight in an abandoned hamlet on the road. Witnessing a group of hobgoblins on worgs alongside a bugbear attacking a half elf, who was hurling fire spells at them.
    • The party engaged the threat, taken off guard somewhat as the more intelligent enemies attacked their weaker links first.
    • Phaelnah healed the battered half elf as the fighters tried to guard the casters against the agile worg riders.
    • Wander assisted the half-elf take down the bugbear as Seamus, Leadbelly and Tyerjon did what they do best.
    • The raiders began targeting Journey with their dying charge, inflicting quite a bit of damage, but the combined efforts of the group overpowered them.
  • Grateful for the help of the party, the half elf introduced herself as Yoxxel
    • Yoxxel explained that the raiders were taking advantage of a power imbalance caused by some zealots killing guards in the name of Aeltra
      • In addition, they have kidnapped, brutalized, and even killed certain members of the Council of Dreamers
    • She was sent out to the hamlet of Odavyn in order to deal with the hobgoblin raiders, but bit off more than she could chew
    • Yoxxel became enamored with the more physically endowed members of the party
  • Yoxxel offered the party a drink in a nearby town in return for saving her
    • At the tavern in the town of Vylsavve, Yoxxel itched for a fight against the party, eventually doing battle with Grognock
    • Grognock emerged victorious from the fight, but Yoxxel didn’t skip a beat, ready to fight again
    • Yoxxel explained to the group that she would eventually be returning to Hymathel, and would be happy to have some company with her, but she needed to finish off the raiders in the area first
    • The group offered their assistance in dealing with the raiders
    • Yoxxel convinced Tyerjon to fight her, and this time the fiery half elf came out on top
      • Yoxxel encouraged Tyerjon to train up on her unarmed combat, suggesting that Grognock might be able to help
    • After a bit of drink, the group took up rooms in the tavern while Yoxxel slept in a shed in the back.
  • The next morning, the group followed Yoxxel to a precarious mountain pass.
    • As the group made their way down the pass, they were soon beset by arrows volley by the raiders above!
    • The group made a run for it, with each member trying a different method to stay safe
    • Leadbelly and Phaelnah put up their shields as Grognock attempted to catch the arrows that would hit him
    • Wander shot back at the cliff sides, and confused the raiders with an illusion and a Darkness spell
    • Tyerjon raised Razodon’s chest over his head and made a mad dash for it, only hit a few times
    • Journey, not as deft as the rest of the party, was peppered with arrows that broke through her False Life
    • Yoxxel was hit a few times as she took up the vanguard
  • Finally making it out of the pass to an opening, the group was faced with an encampment filled with hobgoblins, worgs, and bugbears, and prepared for what would come next.
