A magic weapon.

Description

A large greatsword with a brilliantly gleaming wide blade, and a substantially large fuller running down the center. The enormous guard of the sword seems to be made from some sort of chiseled onyx. The hilt is wrapped in somewhat bloodied leather straps, terminating in a somewhat mundane pommel.

Effects

When the sword takes a life, it somehow consumes the last vestiges of energy of the creature in the killing blow, storing them inside the onyx of the sword.

When a substantial amount of energy is built up, the wielder may execute an attack of power with the sword, striking out with a swathe of powerful dark energy that may extend in a line up to 60 feet away. A creature caught in the energy must make a Dexterity saving throw of DC 15. On a failed save, the creature takes 4d10 necrotic damage, and half as much on a successful one.

The sword appears capable of other feats, but currently they have not been elucidated. The sword seems to craft a bond somehow with those that wield it, exerting its power over them.

Weapon Statistics

Greatsword. Martial Weapon. Magic. On hit: 2d6 slashing damage.

History

Seamus McHammerface tore this sword from the hands of a particularly large Storm Knight that he fought out at sea. Despite being thrown into a stormy ocean and washing up at the shores of Olir, Seamus kept his grip on the sword.

Seamus used the sword for some time throughout his travels in Gessaria, but for a while it didn't manifest any strange properties. However, upon bequeathing the sword to Tyerjon for a short time, the sword spoke a word to the dragonborn - "Blood?"

Seamus continued to use the sword for a while, hearing the sword speak to him more and more often. During his battle with Tarisi, the sword seemed particularly enthused. When the battle finished, Seamus was unable to release Voidspeaker until he lashed out with it, sending a wave of black energy flying out. Afterwards, the sword seemed to calm down, and ceased babbling.
