Battle for the Sun

Battle

The Battle for the Sun was a chaotic, bloody battle that took place in Iron 951 in the Unknown. The battle was prompted by the permanent night that was created by the Nightseeker on Olkorinik 1 of 951, commencing shortly after a group of forces appeared to combat the menance on Olkorinik 2, and finally reaching a conclusion on Olkorinik 8. Three major sides fought in the battle: the shadow legions of the Nightseeker, the twisted abominations of Jylurm, and an eclectic army bound together by duty and money. Notable forces among the fighters of this army was King Elwar Dodren, the acting monarch of Falderheim, Halarain Ovastios, the rightful heir to the Pale Throne of Pallam, the famed adventuring party the Peas, General Arix of Locir Dorcas, and the hero Ulian Bowband.

Though the propects of the battle were initially dire for the coalition of good as they were forced to fight both the Nightseeker and Jylurm, artifice conducted by the wizard Selathwin Muleyr managed to help turn the tide. From ley crystals attuned to specific frequencies from around the world, Selathwin was able to concoct a ritual to safely channel ley energy into individuals who seemed to have an affinity to it. After using this ritual with a number of individuals, increasing their strength and transforming them into unstoppable powerhouses, the coalition began an assault on the Nightseeker. The armies charged down a bridge of shadow that led towards her fortress at the center of the Ring of Mirrors, cutting through legions of shadows to get there, and fighting off monsters of Jylurm from the rear. The charge was initially led by the Peas, but the party soon received a powerful boon that expedited their advance, putting them days ahead of the rest of the army.

The army advanced down the bridge for nearly 3 and a half days, nearly making it to the doors of the fortress on the 8th. At this point, the army had lost many in the battle, but were aided by a demigod in the service of Gulchax, Rodariost, who cut a path through the shadows to the entrance. Blocked by a powerful ward of shadow, the armies defended their position for a time before the wards dropped, due to the Peas defeating a general of the Nightseeker within the keep. The Peas then went on to face the Nightseeker, but the armies were prevented from entering by a god-like abjuration.

The Peas managed to defeat the Nightseeker, and sent a message to the armies to retreat immediately. A powerful teleportation ritual was cast by the archmages Selathwin, Rilbekk Tudefrodgaline, and Renbedar Uleshan that pulled the surviving members of the army out of the fortress.
