Berit, also known as the Caretaker and the Servant of Time, is the god of loyalty, tenderness, affection, and the forgotten. Berit is a timekeeper god and the caretaker of the feebleminded Tharamaias, feeding, grooming, and cleaning up after the god as he eternally wanders the tunnels carved by Nurenin and closed by Vaaltha. While many worship Berit as a kind, loyal and loving god, he is also blamed by many for the creation of magic, which some believe to be the origin of chaos. His symbol is generally depicted as a man carrying another man on his back.

Berit's Sleep

In the timeless eons that Berit cared for Tharamaias, he did so unconditionally and ceaselessly, never resting for a moment in fear of the simple god of time hurting himself, bringing calamity to all existence. In fact, Berit was wholly unaware of the concept of sleep, as it was so prevalent in the worlds that Tharamaias carried; Berit only learned of ideas discarded by Tharamaias, lost to time forever. Berit kept a close hold on these fragments of time, waste of Tharamaias, because he knew, as if it was core to his being, that he god of time should not stumble upon them again if they were lost in the first place.

However, Vaaltha, who was fond of navigating the tunnels that Tharamaias avoided, the avoided fates, knew much about the concept of rest, and out of pure curiosity, asked Berit about it. Berit, of course, knew of so such thing, but even as Vaaltha returned to her duties, the seed she planted in Berit's mind would grow. He would come to spend his ageless eternities pondering the notions of rest, and what that would mean to Tharamaias, and existence himself, and even to himself; if Vaaltha's words were true, could rest provide him succor from the exhaustion he had endured for so long?

Curiosity eventually got the better of Berit, who decided, just for a moment, to rest his body against the walls of the tunnels. Tharamaias, however, just expunged something to be forgotten, a forbidden idea to be removed from time; but without Berit to guide him and feed him, Tharamaias stumbled upon this waste, and in his hunger, consumed it. Existence churned from this concept being introduced to its system, something never meant to return, and from the strain of the weave buckling against itself, the ability to twist reality, the concept of magic, was born.

For Berit's betrayal of his duties, he was cursed with the head of a hideous creature, scaring away the already fleeting company of Vaaltha and Nurenin. He never again shirked his duties, vigilantly watching over Tharamaias without pause ever since.
