A self-regulating professional body chaired by the Grand Wizards. It is immune to the will of governors and emperors, the wizards within their ivory towers guard the cities from intra-planetary threats, Daemons, spirits and magical dangers. While nominally of the Troll Empire, this is an international body that isn’t bound by the laws of any nation and whose only goal is the furthering of the magical sciences and defence from greater threats than ordinary men can handle.
The Order has a number of sub-orders including the Order of Necromancers, Order of Chaotic Wizards, and Order of Water. It and all of its sub-orders use a distinctive ranking system based on the individual's ability and level of training, going in order of Student - Apprentice - Journeyman - Master - Grandmaster (not including titles given for their actual roles within the Order), with Grandmasters usually being the head of a wizard tower. The term Archmage is also used on occasion, usually for a particularly skilled Grandmaster or an individual who has refused the rank of Grandmaster but is in ability far in excess of Master; however this term is not a set level of ability.
