Kimi-napped!

Session
City of Lies 2022-11-02

Shosuro Kimi was taken hostage by Bayushi Korechika. Before going to speak with him, the Magistrates decided to get an appropriate gift to ease things. They were able to find a rare bird from a dealer in exotic animals. Delivering the gift and a request for a meeting they arranged on for the following day.

Upon being escorted into the estate the security was very conspicuously increased and on display. Talking to Korechika, he claimed that he was "protecting" her during the time of "civil unrest" since Governor Hyobu and her brother, Shosuro Jocho were both busy dealing with that.

In order to feel like he had done his duty and was able to release her he asked for two things:

  • The personal assurance from the Magistrates that they were pursuing the true culprits of the recent robbery of the opium warehouse owned by Watchful. With a signed and officially-stamped statement from the Magistrates to back this up. Stating that they had determined that Bayushi Otado had nothing to do with it.
  • That Hyobu must end their current conflict. To this end he sent a message with them to her stating, ""I really believe that there is now a great deal of opportunity for both of us if we can just stop fighting and start negotiating."

After returning to Hyobu with Korechika's terms, she urged them to sign the statement and dictated a response reading,  "I never wanted this struggle, and have only been reacting to assaults on my interests. By all means, let's discuss."

The Magistrates ended up signing the statement, despite some personal misgivings. Hyobu and Yogo Osako were on hand to witness.

When escorting Kimi back out of the Bayushi estate she instead requested if they would take her to the Ide Residence, feeling that she would be happier (and safer) with the family of her fiance, Ide Asamitsu. To that end Asamitsu tended to agree, feeling that the current peace is likely only temporary.

Additionally, Kimi mentioned a strange sound that kept her from sleeping while she was at the Bayushi estate. Occasionally she would hear a loud wailing and crying, like a child throwing a tantrum. She thought better than to question it given the circumstances. The squawks and cries of Korechika's birds are strange enough. Some of them sound almost human and a few were not just capable of speaking Rokugani but imitating specific people in the household!
