Imperium

Nation

The Kingdom of Imperium, also known as the Starlight Empire, is a nation situated on the northwestern coast of Kagreth. It's split into several city states, each under the leadership of a Highlord. At the head of the nation lies the king, who commands his own fragment of the nation.

Imperium borders the Kingdom of Shuria to the east, the Republic of Akidrogon to the north, and the Kingdom of Gadencia to the south.

Known For...

  • A profitable raw material market, which exports fifty-percent of coastal wood through the Trade Road every year.
  • A flourishing war with the Republic of Akidrogon, currently undergoing a mass cease fire order as a part of the 3120 AD Coastal Peace Treaty.
  • An incredibly progressive legal system, with the vast majority of politics being debated in court rooms throughout the nation.

Government

Imperium rules as a monarchy with a parliamentary council. The king or queen controls all affairs related to war, while he or she works together with the council to decide affairs of state.

Determining the future king or queen of Imperium is a process decided using blood ties, with various different Estates having varied amounts of claim to the Throne. After many, many years of Imperium's continued existence, just about every Imperial alive has a distant claim to the Throne.

Several Estates can lay their claim to the Throne at once, and depending on the popular vote and their amount of signed deeds with the Council, their order of succession may be rearranged.

Their fashion emphasizes light, flowing garments, with the typical colors of red and gold. White is used as a backdrop, and used for the background of short-sleeved clothes with wider necklines. For officials, less white is common, with overcoats and knee-length skirts. Nobles and commoners do not vary much at all, with the main differentiation being the finer fabrics.

Economy

Imperium's economy is rather flourishing, due in large part to their abundance fine arts, woodworking, and factory businesses. While they export many goods in the first two fields, they tend to import a lot of the supplies needed to upkeep the massive power plants and steam workshops that dot much of their cities.

One of Imperium's prized imports is coal, which is utilized heavily to power everything pertaining to an imperial's day-to-day life. Without steady access to coal, much of Imperium's daily operations would be hindered and eventually shut-down completely.

History

In ancient texts long forgotten, it was said Imperium began as a city state of Hylexia, one of the Elder Nations from before the Breaking. After the arrival of Ba'aza'lmaeon onto the Mortal Coil, the nation was physically split into two halves by a massive chasm measuring several miles deep.

The two resulting kingdoms birthed from this event would later become Imperium and Akidrogon. Imperium derives it name from Imperium, the First of the Dead. A story which details the life of a member of the Human Dark (the precursors to humanity).

During the First Draconic Wars, Imperius

descended into the Catacombs of Nazaroth

and began to slumber. In this state, he

could administer the death of all life, and

offered much of his soul to Death itself.

Travelers brave enough to find their way

into his tomb would pay their respects and

become a Servant of the Gravelord. Upon

his awakening, Imperius would call these

Servants his Spartans.

This was the birth of Spartan culture, and

long after the First Draconic Wars had

ended, Iskandar would unite the tribes of

the Forbidden Plains and the tribes of the

Abyssal Chasm into common day

Imperium.

Military

Imperium's army is famed for its overpowering number of capable soldiers (known as the Imperial Regime) and the use of the gladius, a two-edged weapon with a tapered point for stabbing during thrusting. They are also known to employ very few individuals skilled in magecraft, and as such have little reliance on magic.

Each cohort contains 15 squadrons of 90 soldiers with a highly formal chain of command. Ranks are appointed based on aptitude, with any able Imperial man or woman able to become a regime member.

Units who directly serve the monarchy are referred to as "Spartan", with the few who take direct orders from the crown given the even more laudable title of "Elite Spartan". The name is derived from Imperium's capital city, Sparta, to which the king directly controls.
