KA12. The Fallen Mad, Part I

Following on from their meeting with Drevin ir'Roole, the party examined the Letter from Bludak Mal K'shaar.  The letter asked them to find the remains of Faela, a notable Cleric of the Silver Flame, who had died in the depths of Sharn.  Since then, there had been rumours of her appearing and carrying out miracles; unfortunately a fiend by the name of Uvimahm was after her remains, so Bludak Mal K'shaar asked the party to recover her remains and escort them to safety.  Deciding to follow up on it immediately, they thanked the House Sivis gnome for delivering the message.  The gnome made a sly reference to them seeking help of The Trust, the gnomish state security agency, and suggested that they look for Blancy, a gnome that was said to be having visions of the Silver Lady that could be FaelaBlancy could be found within the Fallen district.

Deciding not to waste any time, the party hired a skycoach to take them to the outside of the Fallen district, deep in the lower levels of Sharn.  Despite the cost, the dwarven driver refused to take them inside the area itself; instead he dropped them on one edge.  Heading inside, the party found a group of three people sitting around a campfire; they were dressed in worn clothes, and one had a paper hat on his head.  They were drawn in by Arc's offer of money, but weren't able to offer any additional information to find Blancy or their goal, and treated her attempts to talk with suspicion.  Proceeding onwards, Arc found a pair of similar characters harassing a gnome that was carving a face into the wall while talking to herself.

Realising that the gnome was Blancy, Selene d'Lyrandar stepped forward to stop the two thugs from harrassing her.  The situation quickly escalated, and Selene d'Lyrandar was forced to unleash an Eldritch Blast at each of them, before Arc and Elias Minch stepped forwards to help.  Meanwhile, the three that Arc had originally spoken to stepped up to join the fray, but were distracted by Smith deploying his cannon.  Selene d'Lyrandar was blindsided by a woman that charged at her with an axe from one side, but a combination of her Armour of Agathys with Smith's Firebolts soon managed to destroy the woman in a combination of fire and ice.  Arc and Elias Minch finished off the two harrassers, allowing the party to talk to Blancy.

It quickly became clear that Blancy wasn't completely mentally stable; she had started to carve a face dozens of times across various walls that could be seen wherever the party looked.  Selene d'Lyrandar tried to talk to Blancy, but it was Elias Minch that actually got through to the gnome.  They realised that she had indeed been having visions of the cleric that they were looking for, but she refused to help them.  Blancy claimed that she was being yelled at by a dwarf named Engar, a foreman that had died recently in the Cogs.  Arc was eventually able to persuade Blancy to help by offering her a drink; it was actually a Philtre of Love, and with Blancy immediately falling for the changeling, the party were able to enlist her help.  She told them that in her visions, the Silver Lady could be seen on the Silver Path, deep into the Fallen district.

Blancy led the party to the location that she had seen, spending the walk excitedly discussing marriage plans with Arc.  However the effects of the potion wore off after an hour; at that point, she ran off in shame.  However she had led them to the right place; an arch under two glass pillars that had partially collapsed.  Heading into the passage within, the party soon found themselves in a circular room with dozens of bodies in the centre.  They gingerly entered, and were confused by the fact that this did not seem to be the result of battle.

When all four had entered, a magical wall came up blocking both the entrance and the exit.  A wind immediately began to pick up, and they realised that the blows that could be seen on the corpses were from collisions with objects flung about by the roaring storm, rather than a battle.  Elias Minch was able to spot that there were five dragonshards embedded into the walls, emitting a faint glow.  With this pointed out, Arc crawled to the nearest one and tried to pull it free, but succeeded only in slicing her hands open.  Selene d'Lyrandar had better luck; firing a pair of Eldritch Blasts at the one nearest her, she was rewarded with the sight of it shattering, which caused the wind to drop off slightly.

The room quickly extracted its toll on the party, as they sought to destroy the rest of the dragonshards.  The four remaining dragonshards were taken out quickly, with each party member getting one of them.  However the wind flung debris into them during their work, and Elias Minch and Selene d'Lyrandar were both knocked unconscious.  Arc and Smith were able to return them to consciousness, and some potions found on one of the bodies was able to restore the party to a reasonable level of strength.

They debated stopping for a rest, but decided that time was of the essence, so pressed on.  The passageway led to an open chamber.  Inside was a large floating fiend, with several smaller creatures looking on with pleasure.  The fiend was hovering over a woman, cowering in front of a shimmering magical barrier.  Seeing the party enter, the fiend turned to them and asked for their assistance.  Claiming a need to get through the barrier, the fiend said that the only way of saving Weslyan, the woman that he was threatening, was if one of them went through instead.  Only someone pure of heart could go through the barrier, but once they had done so it would be destroyed.

The party were torn; this fiend appeared to be Uvimahm, the fiend that they were warned about that was after the remains of Faela.  He needed to be stopped, but the party were exhausted and not confident that they could win a fight...
