JF05. Airship Escort

Completed

The Jade Foxes were hired by Captain Dalran Icehammer to protect his airship, the Kol Korran's PrideDalran Icehammer was transporting assorted goods originally from Xen'drik to the dwarven city of Korna Peak, in the Ironroot Mountains.  Dalran Icehammer wasn't overly concerned about what would occur during the two-week voyage; he was primarily concerned with bandits trying to steal his airship when he docked.

However that never became a concern; on the third day of the voyage the Kol Korran's Pride was beset by a strange storm; the sky turned orange and the ship was surrounded by lightning.  On rushing out onto the deck, Dalran Icehammer was plucked up by one of the group of harpies circling the airship, and dropped over the side.

The Jade Foxes fought off the harpies, but in the ensuing storm the Kol Korran's Pride was badly destroyed and started to disintegrate.  Finding some parachutes, the Jade Foxes jumped from the ship and safely landed on a small island between two sections of a river running through the forest.  In the distance they could see a tower, with a cone of lightning angling directly above it.  Either side of the cone was a peaceful and serene sky.  The Jade Foxes searched the area, and found the body of Dalran Icehammer, several other crew members, and some of the cargo.  In particular, the Jade Foxes decided to keep an alchemy jug that they found.

Making their way through the forest, the Jade Foxes reached the tower within a few hours of travel.  Working their way up the tower, the Jade Foxes found a necromantic laboratory, before ascending to the summit itself.  There they found an eldritch machine; when attempting to turn it off, they were accosted by the operator of the tower, a necromancer accompanied by several wights.  The necromancer bragged about his plan to destroy Dalran Icehammer.  The Jade Foxes killed the necromancer and shut the tower off, causing the storm to subside.  Unfortunately what remained was a long trek back on foot to The Jade Fort.
