Solreneos

The Free Thinker
Deity

"Free thought is the true liberty of the mind, and the gods-given right of all creatures to think and do as an individual."

- Solrenean saying

Solreneos the Free Thinker, Lord of the Independent, Son of Oohros, is the demigod of individuality and free-thinking. Depicted as a robed human man holding the collective minds of Aranor in his grasp, Solreneos prizes independent thought and uniqueness. He is considered a member of Oohros' Pantheon.

History

Records of Solreneos' existence have been lost to the Curse of Falandine, but as all demigods, it is commonly theorized and accepted that Solreneos was born from the union of Oohros with an unknown human woman in the distant past.

The rediscovery of the Aranorian Pantheon post-Curse lead to the eventual unearthing of Solreneos' doctrines of cherishing the unique, encouraging self-reliance and individuality, something that proved popular among the recovering peoples of Aranor, who drew upon old folk tales that spoke of how Solreneos provided the secret to make each individual in Aranor unique from one another; However, upon the discovery of his relation to Oohros, God of Chaos, worship of Solreneos dropped considerably across all continents. Today, the faithful of Solreneos are few and scattered, though they are still tolerated by most.

Characteristics

Solreneos cherishes free thought, individuality, and uniqueness among individuals. By contrast, he is said to abhor ideals such as a united collective and strict hierarchies that do not allow for any sort of self-expression. He is especially hateful of aberrations and magics that seek to dominate and control an individual, and his faithful often work towards goals such as eliminating or banning the use of such powers. As such, Solreneos is a popular figure among those who prize their own individuality; He is especially beloved among rogues, writers, certain bards, and those who otherwise seek a way to self-determination - yet while his ideals of individuality and self-reliance are often admired by many, opponents of Solreneos' tenets contend that such characteristics tend to breed selfish individuals.

The symbol of Solreneos is a single hand wielding a scroll of parchment - a depiction of a person's right to express their thoughts.
