History of Eochora

The history of Eochora is divided into nine eras. They can range from a couple hundred to over a thousand years in length. It's not clear who first invented these names and groupings, but ultimately all scholars across Western Eochora have adopted them and use them for clear communication on the study of Eochoran history.

The First Deific Era (DE) < 0

This era was only known by the gods. It includes all events prior to the Great Dragonflight.

The Second Draconic Era (DR) -4,300 — -3,758

This 542-year-long era began with the Great Dragonflight, included the wars of Giants and Dragons, and ended with the destruction of Halilodge, the last giant city.

The Third Epidemic Era (EP) -3,758 — -3,396

This 362-year-long era began with the destruction of Halilodge, the last city of giants, included the emergence of Garamenia and the retreat of dwarves, and ended with the discovery of Arclode.

The Fourth Arcane Era (AR) -3,396 — -3,133

This 263-year-long era began with the discovery of Arclode, included incredible feats of magical discovery, and ended with the shutting of the Elemental Gates.

The Fifth Elemental Era (EL) -3,133 — -1,871

This 1262-year-long era began with the shutting of the Elemental Gates, includes the Elemental Invasions, and ended with the Elemental Gates reopening.

The Sixth Lost Era (LS) -1,871 — -1,029

This 842-year-long era began with the reopening of the Elemental Gates, included the long, slow rebuilding of civilization after the Elemental Invasion, and ended with the arrival of humans in Eochora.

The Seventh Human Era (HU) -1,029 — -539

This 490-year-long era begins with the first sightings of humans in Eochora, includes their settlement of the western islands of Estaria and The Timocracy of Chanard, and ends with the crowning of Rilitar Volum as empress of the Volic Dynasty.

The Eighth Volic Era (VO) -539 — 0

This 539-year-long era began with Rilitar Volum being crowned empress of the Volic Dynasty, includes her expansion and conquest of nearly all of Bruidan, and culminates with the independence of Speydom as the empire crumbled after Rilitar's mysterious disappearance.

The Ninth Unnamed Era (UN) > 0

The current era, which began when Speydom declared its independence from the Volic Empire, the biggest indication of the decline and eventual fall of the Volic Empire before it became the nation of Ushal. Scholars expect the era to be named the Ninth Mercantile Era, but officially that won't happen until we are well into the next one.
