R01 - Christopher and ""Friends""

Session

Father’s Day; 3rd of Muvay, 1024

Told the kids to act properly chastened. I told the others as much. That one misstep, or mistake, and we could have had dead kids on their hands. A Harrington dressed up like some princeling for some reason felt I was in the wrong for this warning. Christopher. He said his name like it meant anything outside of his mouth. The thought of giving a donation just fled my mind. Forgotten. Lady Trudgeon asked me to stay for some reason. Might as well. Impolite to refuse.

She’s asked all of us to help out and make sure this fundraiser goes off without a hitch. Not sure what sort of help I would provide. I’m a guard, scout, hunter.

Oh she wants a security detail, in addition. I suppose I could. Not that I love this gaggle of people I’m being stuck with. We have this rabbit in a suit, Christopher, a rabbit without a suit. Or so much as a shirt. Oris Honeyflower from what I gather. Then a tower of a tiefling who was called Aggma, and finally Sett. Not much to be said about him. Normal. Understated. The only one I don’t feel outlandish standing beside.

The lady seems deadest on having me in this... carnival of personalities. So I will.

Need to find a bard and convince him to help with the fundraiser. Kobold. Patrick Singalong

The small rabbit, Oris. He apparently knows some of the places this bard frequents. We’re following his lead for now. Along the way Christopher asked how long we’ve been around. He keeps puffing his chest. Trying to put himself on top somehow. Reminds me of the commander. Can’t stand it.

Referred to me as a “weird hunter”, and then insisted he was a treasure hunter. Sure. I should have kept my mouth shut, but... I didn’t. At least he stopped prying. In the square we stopped by a stall selling coffee. Bitter. Not great. I can feel a bit of the exhaustion being covered up. Not gone, just ignored. Like Stimleaf. Tastes a little less shit, at least.

We went to the Greenhill Inn. Bard wasn’t there for a few days, usually he goes to the docks in the North. Smokebridge. Usually fishing by the river. He probably lives around there, too. Sure enough as we approached we saw him fishing along the river.

The two rabbits tried to convince the kobold but didn’t seem very successful. They came back and told us we need to establish for him an escape route and a way that he can be turned invisible. I still don’t see how I’m helpful, here. We head to Granny V’s to deal with the second.

As we approached we watched as the building shook in a boom, and a voice scream “Fire!”. I felt myself freezing up, unbidden. Oris started to panic and ran in, he and Aggma doused the fire using some magic.

The guards, led by Lestran Hapler, came in about the ruckus, warning Granny about it. A common occurrence. On his way out he offered Sett and I a position if we wanted it. I answered the same way I always have: not at all.

We asked about an invisibility potion, and Granny V seemed surprised. “Are you rich, now, Christopher? Heard things haven’t been great for you.” What a surprise. Shocking. He managed to haggle down to get a small trinket that lets people pass through walls. As repayment for putting the fire out. She gave it for free, warning that timing could be important lest you get stuck in a wall. I can’t imagine anything going wrong with this. Nothing at all.

Went to a tavern for lunch. Strange meal, not bad. I think our resident rich man is less rich than he likes to present himself. Lines up with what Granny said.

Harris came in and did his typical Harris fare. Asked me if I want to join him, offered Sett a job, and seemed to have some issue with Oris. For some reason Christopher took the most issue with him, I suppose with all of us being called “losers”. Did magic, I suppose. Not sure what. But Harris was enraged. Got in Christopher’s face, complete with an armed posse.

Christopher backed down and it all ended peacefully.

That’s a joke. This rabbit whose ego is taller than his ears decided to keep swinging. Harris went for his dagger. I was going to try and step in and calm the situation - even if it meant working with him - but the bartender ended it by kicking us out instead. This boy doesn’t seem to know the world, and how little it thinks of him. He seems to think he sits atop it. Maybe getting stabbed would have been an excellent lesson.

We brought the item to the bard. He wanted to test it and we brought him to a thin wall. Just like I was afraid he tried to walk back through it again. Thankfully it wore off before, so he just hit his head.

He agreed to participate in the fundraiser. He asked if we were called "Christopher and Friends" as a group and I might have sneered.

Next we head to the Bells, I believe to convince a magician to do parlour tricks for the fundraiser. We were sent to see Martha, but Oris seemed really nervous. I tried to comfort him, not sure if it worked or if he just wanted me to stop trying.

Christopher - as much as I find him deplorable - seems to have a way with people. Sometimes. When he tries. He, with Oris, managed to convince the bard. He managed to convince the headmistress to have some of the Bells show up to do some tricks and demonstrations.

Oris seemed very uncomfortable around Martha - to the point where he didn’t even drink any kind of tea. I’ll have to speak to him about that. If there’s an issue... There seemed to be some kind of agenda to her invitation.
