Growing Up in the sect

The sect that ruled over the region where Vallano grew up, lost their leader in the exact year of his birth. As per tradition, the sect sought the leader's successor - or actually, reincarnation - among all the children born right after his death. Vallano was chosen, and trained hard in the temple. He stuck up a deep friendship with Yangdon, another local youth. Among the children, there was much speculation about who (if any) was the actual reincarnation.

During the Ceremony of Thousand Petals, held in the twentieth year after the death of the previous leader, all students participated in a grueling test. Vallano came close - very close - but Yangdon won, and proved to be, in fact, the divine reincarnation of the leader.

Leaving The Sect

Vallano couldn't really find peace in the sect anymore after not being chosen, and ended a tumultuous chapter of his life, in which he had some problematic romantic adventures.

Competition with brother

After leaving the sect, Vallano returned to his craft and his family. He and his brother tied in a competition to see who was the most skilled herd. His family chose his brother, however (partially out of sympathy for his affliction). Vallano was not chosen - again - and left.

Joining Mercenaries

Vallano signed up with a group of mercenaries famed for their white robes, that they would not stain during combat.

It was not that they did not kill (even though many claimed they didn't) - it was more about a very deliberate measure of violence. The white robes were widely recognizable, and often feared.

Leaving the mercenaries

During a mission, Vallano and the White Robes stood against the Raven Shield, and realized that the White Robes' focus on cleanliness and efficiency did not mean they were on the right side of every conflict. He was spared by Gasha during a scouting mission, and later signed up with the Raven Shield.
