Expedition 9 - Rarder's Account

Crane seems to be quite enterprising for a young wizard-in-training, and I did not mind planning our upcoming expedition with him. Dork seems to follow along with whatever his friend proposes.

We've invested in a barge of our own, as well as weaponry that's fit for dealing with the undead. We enticed Hats to stay with us by bumping his retainer wage to 15 gold pieces per expedition, and we recruited a halfling whose name I forgot. Something on B. Beski? Beske? Beaskoetskske? She seemed well armed.

Although our journeys to the Redwood castle seem to be unimpeded, we remain vigilant on every tour. We decided to resume investigating the room we've entered through a secret passageway in the tower.

There wasn't much of interest: an armoury with rotten spears and beds, and four jail cells—of which three were empty. One of the cells had a skeleton holding a spoon. We found a hidden nook, that had perfectly preserved spoon and a not saying "Hope is another spoon." Must've been a mad man.

What really piqued our interest are two reinforced and locked doors: one to the right from the secret doors, and one across the armoury doors. We tried to pry open the latter ones, but alas, were nearly ambushed by a host of skeletons.

The halfling screamed, warning us about incoming assault. She was swiftly cut down. Hats and I took the line, and swiftly dispatched them. I alone have taken down four of them. Dork tried to join the fray, but poor lad couldn't hold an axe for his life! It's a miracle that he hasn't hurt anyone in his confusion.

With Hats being wounded, we decided to leave and recuperate in Redwood. Our only treasure we retrieved were the possession of the fallen halfling.

Redwood castle notes:

  • Current Redwood baron is not a direct descendant of the royalty that held this keep many years ago. He is a great nephew, 4–5 knees removed.
  • The castle was conquered by a warlord long time ago; and the legend has it that he was empowered by a demon he made a pact with.
  • Above warlord and his ilk are believed to be long gone; current castle inhabitants most likely don't have a lot (if any) connections to him.
