Session Fourteen

Still catching their collective breath from the fight below the city, the party conducted a brief investigation of the subterranean tunnel. Though the babau formerly known as Basil Mureal had been digging, it had been building upon the bones of a much older system that ran below the city. It looked to have been untouched for at least a century prior to the present day and was riddled with cave-ins and dead ends.

Their investigation concluded, they collected the remains of their main enemy. The dretches had dissolved into a tar-like sludge after death, as had the flesh of the babau. Its horn, however, remained intact along with parts of its carapace.

Before the group made their battered way back to the city, they sent a quick message to Jalester Silvermane requesting he meet them at Trollskull Manor. After re-entering Waterdeep from the River Gate, they made a brief stop by Phaulkonmere to deliver a brief update on their success before returning home. Jalester was waiting for them, dismayed but not exactly surprised that they'd already taken matters into their own hands. He took the horn from them and departed, saying he'd have to make a full report to the Open Lord and thanking them.

The party spent the next few hours cleaning up and relaxing in anticipation of The Rise of Tiamat, the opera to which Beatrice had been invited. Soon enough, show time rolled around. The group made its way to the Lightsinger Theater around twenty minutes before the start of the show, and spent the time schmoozing, drinking, eating, and, in the case of Valentino and Solaris, stealing.

While Solaris, disguised as Jalester, acted as a distraction, Val smoothly pickpocketed a noblewoman whom Kershaw had recognized and pointed out to the pair, along with her husband. From her, he managed to nab a fine bracelet. From him, a signet ring to a house neither of them recognized. Kershaw was content to sample the hors d'oeuvres as the two had their fun, entering into an impromptu eating competition with a large blond man. Meanwhile, Beatrice struck up a conversation with a neighbour he recognized from Trollskull Alley and furthermore introduced Nedria to a trio of young noblemen around her age, two of whom he had tutored. Elegy drifted from the group to talk with fellow inventor Nelni Kader and remained deep in conversation until the show began.
