Hrothgar was elected by the jarls to be King of the Asmundi seventeen years ago, after he vanquished an invading army. He is acclaimed for his courage, his wisdom, and his generosity to his followers. In his younger days, his raiding and warring brought great wealth to his followers, and young warriors flocked to Victorhall. Over the last year his health has declined, and some of the younger men have moved on to find a lord who will bring them the wealth and glory they seek. He recently was injured during a hunt, and the wound has only worsened. He has only one eligible heir, who is underage, creating a tense political situation. In the midst of this emerging crisis, the king's kinsman, Ulfric, is shrewdly arranging affairs to his own advantage. Hrothgar’s wife, Wealtheow, and his loyal vassal, Balgus, still watch over him, devoted to protecting both the king and his legacy.
