Five days' ride northeast of Waterdeep, lies Tinkerton. Originally a large swath of swamp land in Stump Bog owned by the eccentric and wealthy inventor, Igor Fizzlebang, Tinkerton is now a bustling town. People come from far and wide to visit the zany Igor, seeking out his wacky inventions and making tinkering requests. As a result, the town is frequently packed with not only locals but also adventurers and rising inventors. The town's economy depends on the tourists, as most of the locals rent out temporary housing, rent out temporary shop space, and sell adventuring goods to those who travel there.
Winding your way down the Tinkertonian streets, you find that the small town is not like most other towns along the Sword Coast. It's full of people wearing adventuring and traveling gear, some with maps, others wandering the streets in awe, most obviously not locals. They purchase things from street vendors and shops selling the latest magic tomes, armors, weapons, and adventuring clothing.
Locals, while common in clothing and style, are generally well educated and mannered. Lord Mayor Fizzlebang holds the ideals of knowledge and ingenuity above all else, and as such, he does not seek to restrict access to information and experimentation so long as it doesn’t actively harm others. All Tinkertonian and Ewefordian children receive a free basic education. Few areas of study and experimentation are banned in Tinkerton, even those outlawed in most other locations. Instead, they are regulated and monitored by Igor and the councils that represent the towns’ interests.
