The Lonely Fingers are a mercenary group based in the Kalhastian Empire. The group is generally comprised of 5 members that refer to each others as "fingers", though they provisionally taken on specialists for certain jobs.

Each member of the group is labeled by one of the fingers of the hand, together making a whole. The Index is the leader, the Thumb is stalwart and aggressive, the Middle is caring and heartfelt, the Ring is loud and flashy, and the Little is unseen and vigilant.

History

The group was founded some time ago by Balkan Barberson, a few years after he began his travels with Still Edge, roughly around 985 IaC, with the founding membership being Balkan, Still Edge, Soup, Ackerdunn Pillet, and Vgannthen. Vgannthen would later leave the group in 986, replaced by Dordremis Valpath, whose death resulted in the hiring of Olby Sandsinger. Ackerdunn was killed later in 987, and Cossidy Crane was hired in his place.

In 989, the Lonely Fingers took on a job to exhume a particular artifact from Eldag Dungeon, located at the center of Eldag Hollow. Unable to enter the dungeon due to it being waterlogged, the party hired the wizard Nettleberry, who cleared the water out for them. They successfully retrieved the artifact, and began waiting for their contact to pick it up, making camp in the hollow for many weeks. During this time, tensions began to arise between the core members of the group and Nettleberry, whom they suspected to be a necromancer, and Olby Sandsinger believed was treacherous. These tensions were exacerbated when a group of Claw of Arali members from Cloverhall, looking to take the artifact themselves, attacked the mercenaries' encampment disguised as undead, leading them to pin the blame on Nettleberry.

Seeking to cause chaos, Nettleberry promptly turned on the Fingers, attacking them alongside the Claw, pushing the mercenaries back and causing grievous damage to Balkan by exploding a number of undead surrounding him. Nettleberry was killed soon after when the Claw turned on her in stead, but her lingering undead managed to kill both Olby and Balkan before they perished. Still Edge was left with grave injuries as Cossidy and Soup fled into the Eldag Dungeon.
