20 - Orcus Bloom, Pyre ∞

Final Showdown
2020-05-09

You return to a Ramsped made of ash and rubble. All that hasn't been burned to the ground has been destroyed, you presume by the demons that are no longer raging through the town. However, unsurprisingly, Orcus Bloom remains standing. You walk up to the monastery, and find the door to be unlocked. You enter, and there is no one in the building, though it would appear that everything was dropped and left in a hurry. What do you do?

Investigation will show them the stairs down into the dungeon of the monastery.

You descend the steps, down a very long ways. It spirals underneath this building for a very long while, lit only by lanterns on the wall. You get to the bottom of the stairwell and you find a door, unlocked, swung open on its hinges. You trek on further, and you find the unthinkable. Corpses. So many bodies. This chamber is the size of a ballroom, and there are just mountains of bodies, stacked floor to ceiling. There is a small path in the middle of the room leading to a door on the far wall. Someone roll a wisdom check for me, please.

You recognize the bodies of some of these people. Some of them are the bodies of drow people who you recall seeing in the monastery. Some of them, you remember from the town of Helmsfield.

You walk into the next room, and you first see shelves. The room is circular, and around all of it is shelves full of Crimson Malachite. They all pulsate with magical energy, almost as if there is something living inside. In the centre of this room is a great circle, full of runes and arcane symbols. You also see a person. Dressed in all white garb and holding a staff made of birch wood, everything stained red with blood. She turns to you, upon hearing the door open. Its Lady Springdew. What do you do?

She'll explain her plan if asked. She wishes for the end of drow oppression, and Lady Belladonna started this wondrous chain of events. 500 souls are needed to summon The Blood Lord, Orcus, and she is the final one.

You watch as her birch staff glows, and a blinding purple light bursts from her chest. It travels from her body, which has now slumped to the floor, over to the circle, along with the light from all of the gems. They convene, and from the circle rises a demon, foul and monstrous.

You all instantly recognize him to be Orcus.

battle notes:

bear in mind you have a vorpel sword. it may be more beneficial to try and give (player wielding sword) advantage as opposed to damage. that is up to you. any of you who were here for dinnan's dnd campaign last year will remember our plight with rolling many advantages, haha.

With one final attack, Orcus has been felled. He falls to the ground, as the runes he was summoned by become alight once more. The Blood Lord crumbles into ashes as the air fills with smoke and soot. You watch as smog is pulled down the stairwell, passing by without ever entering your lungs, into the circle, faster and faster, as every demon, fiend, and unholy abboration the world has ever encountered is pulled into the Soot Circles once more. As the last bit of dust and ash is pulled away, the room is still. You look to your fellow adventurers, recognizing that you just stopped the demonic incursion and saved the world. And thus ends, the Tale of Orcus Bloom.
